Default 1997 Suzuki Katana 600..Help!

My buddy calls me yesterday asking me to help him get his bike started. So I get there. Drain the tank, change the plugs (yes they are gapped.), put fresh gas in, new battery. Bike fires right up. However, with the choke ON, after the bike warms up the Idle drops rapidly to 500rpm where it will run for 30 more seconds or so. Then dies. Also dies with the Choke off. Any Suggestions/things to look for? Carbs need cleaned? Thanks in advance.

Is there an idle adjust? I don't see why the rpm's would drop with choke on. Rpms usually go up from a cold start to around 4-5k rpm with choke on.

Exactly. Thats why I am so confused. Could it possibly be a clogged up air filter or carb? Tried playing with the idle adjust but it was getting late and I wasn't having any luck.

Sounds to me like the idel is set way to low, but as the bike warms up it shold idel higher with the choke-HUM??? If you don't want to pull the carbs to clean them then go get a can of Seafoam and add about 4oz's to a full tank of fuel and run it threw if you can get it to run that long. I would check the air filter as well.

Second thought. Tell your buddy to sell the Can of Tuna and get a real bike LOL! that's what I tell my buddy with the 06 Tuna.
