I tend to be a loner - aren't we all ? we're bikers - it's not a team sport !
I definitely have learned how to get on peoples good side ( evey good sales man has this flaw) I don't give a **** one way or the other-what you see is what you get, more or less.
(selling my own jobs to the public for 30+years) and by doing so could be considered to be one that hides his normal aggression unless I find I need to show it.. Just wait till some soccer mom on a cellphone cuts you off in the traffic- my language becomes choice and explicit. So does yours, I'll betcha !
My dislike for allot of society's systems. YUP
My dislike for some Laws and authority on a broad base to a degree. YUP again
I tend not to let people too close to me and have a very limited amount of friends that I allow to see the (so called) real me. A wise man said 'if you can, in a lifetime, count five good and true friends you have made, you are blessed indeed.'So where's the problem ?
I do have quite a dislike of most peoples behavior and are definitely guilty of being a touch over judgmental. I try to make allowances for others, but sometimes I fail and am sarcastic. See Navysquid new member post.
I'd like to add something which was e-mailed to me recently, which may encapsulate who bikers really are :
Yes, we are a sub-culture and do attract negative comment at every opportunity.
Having said that, I have belonged to numerous church groups all my life and have
never seen the generosity and public spirited actions that I have been privileged
to be a part of in the biking community.
We do attract some of these comments ourselves. We do ride fast at times and we
do make a noise. I make a noise partly due to the extra safety margin it affords me.
We do look like thugs in our leathers and some are inconsiderate and intolerant
on the road.
We also do go to church, love our wives and families, pray before we set out on our
rides and care about each others safety and welfare. When a brother dies, we are
at the funeral to support their families and each other. Knowing the individual
well is not the reason we attend. He is a biker and a brother.
When we are stopped on the side of the road, other bikers enquire about
our welfare and offer assistance.
If our mates cannot afford the petrol to ride with us, we make a plan.
When we get together we do not concern ourselves with each others station
in life before extending a friendly hand.
When I am with bikers I know I am safe. If someone starts trouble I know
the majority in the crowd will stop it.
If we are seen as sinners and undesirable elements then so be it ….. but show me
any other group of thousands of totally diverse people of different cultures,
beliefs and backgrounds across the globe, that have the respect we have for each
other and actually do care what happens to each other, and I will show you a better world.
