Default is it worth it

hey everyone. i have the chance to get my hands on a 03 600rr with under 7k miles it is salvaged and it runs rough. but it was able to ride up and down the stret and start and stop . the guy who owns it buys and sells bikes from the auction and he thinks that not all 4 plugs arent firing. i can pick the bike up for 3,000. almost all the fairings will needs to be replaced ( not only because of rash but because the "custom" paint looks like a bass fish boat) the swing arm is fine, the fram is straight, the forks are straight and not leaking.

here is the ad
i have a 2003 600rr with 7k miles tags are out a year starts and rides needs work i think not all 4 plugs are fireing.salvage title
has a CHM pipe dave at 916 370 2950

so what would you do ? i can sell my 900RR right now for 3500 and buy this for 3k. i can buy new plastics piece by piece im not too worried about that just i dont know why it would be running rough and smoking.

Pass on that. How do you know the frame/swingarm/forks are straight? Hope you're not taking his word for it. You don't know what kind of underlying damage has been done to a bike with a salvaged title.

if you are really considering the bike make sure the sale is dependent on a pre buy inspection
done by your local HONDA dealership. if the seller wont agree to that it is a pass for sure.
just my 2 cents

I wouldn't buy a bike with a salvage title.

Great point. What happens when you go to replace all those fairings and find some catastrophic problems underneath? Without knowing why it's running rough, you're taking a GAMBLE by purchasing this bike. If you feel lucky, roll the dice...otherwise, think very hard and deep. Good luck.

well thanks for the responses. when i saw the bike in person i checked the swingarm, forks, frame etc.they looked good . i totally agree about worrying about what underneath. the bike wal salvaged because it was layed down and most of the fairings are pretty messed up. im not to worried about it beng salvaged just because bikes now adays can get salvaged very easily because the plastics alone cost so much money from the dealer. im mostly worried about the motor and how it runs opposed to cosmetics

Yea man no one really knows whats wrong with it... at least you will have time to work on it... and hell even if it is messed up i'm sure you can sell it for what you bought it for.

Granted i like your bike now too... it's very clean. but... FI

I dunno man but you know me, i have no problem riding a ugly bike.... it gives it more charcter
and besides you go to that guy and wave 2800 in his face saying this is all i could get.... he would take it.... if not ask me to barrow the "other 200" and get it for 3000

whats up with going to vallejo tonight?
