600 or 1000....comes down to personal preference. Everybody has seen 600 riders run as fast as 1000 riders in the twisties. The magazines have shown us that a well ridden stock 600 can circle a track withing fractions of a tick of a stock liter bike. But for me, I prefer the 1000 because I believe it to be easier to drive in town than a 600 (I know that is in direct contrast to some of you). I don't like to have to tapdance on the shifter to get a motorcycle to haul ***. Liter bikes do that...middleweights do not. I don't have to keep the engine in the upper half of the rev band to enjoy rapid acceleration.

Or maybe I'm just getting lazy...and old...

But I think a 600's power delivery is easier to manage for a person of less experience or inclination (and that was not an insult...its similar to why some people prefer to shoot with a 9mm as opposed to a 40 S&W even though all the stats say the 40 is better)

And I don't care what anyone says...CBR600's, R6's, GSX-R600's, and ZX6's are not "beginner" bikes.

It all comes down to what is your cup of tea. Just my $0.02

Nicely said, I had the choice to get a yamaha R1 or this f4i and I chose the latter. You jump on a bigger bike and there is much more power but you lose some of the ease of riding that comes with the smaller bikes. I was riding a 2000 CBR 929 2 years ago and that thing was insane. I sold that and went to a 02 f4i and there is a definite loss of power but I really like how it handles compared to the heavier bikes. I can still pop the wheel off at 70 MPH, it just takes a little more gas. I dont race or drive 170 mph everywhere that I go so this new bike is working out great. Its easier on gas too!

OK, I have not had a bike for 15 years. Finally, after 10 years of marriage and a bung hole load of tears and begging, my wife signs off on the deal. I knew right off the bat I was not getting another bike after this. A buddy of mine just came out of a honda cruiser and upgraded to an 05 GSXR 750 because everyone and their mother talked him out of a liter. And same with me, but I made my mind up to get liter and nobody was going to talk me out of it. And boy did they try. I argued for friggen days with my buddies. Finally I bought the 05 1000RR. I was responsible though. I broke it in way slow, respecting it all the way. As confidence came on so did the throttle. At 1,300 miles and some mods, I am happy to report I made the right decision and I have road that beast as hard as she will go (and the bike too). Now all my 600 and 750 friends are all wishing they would have bought the bigger bike and they are all trying to buy stuff that will keep up because frankly they are jealous I was able to handle it and now they get left behind.

So... If your intensions are to get a 600 and upgrade, save yourself time and money and keep off the throttle until you are ready, and believe me, you WILL be ready.

That is damn good lean angle!! That rocks!! Nothing like someone who can ride like that, especially a girl!! Most girls ride like....well, GIRLS!! And I think if you are capable to get a lean angle like that you might embarrass some guys!! GOOD JOB!! To bad you live so far away...I would love to ride with you!!

I made the mistake of getting the bike "everyone" said was the best in 1986. Brand new GSX-R750. Hauled *** when you were on the pipe, but the bike I had before that (V65 1000 cc Sabre) would flat walk it on a roll-on, and was almost 100lbs heavier. The Gixxer handled great, but I had gotten spoiled by the midrange lunge of a liter bike. I kept the bike for 3 months then traded it for a VF1000R to get back the midrange I had lost.

I also had a break in riding of almost 4 years. I bought a beater Ninja 750 to reacquaint myself with riding, used it for 6 months, then dropped it for a 96 900RR. This was the first motorcycle that allowed me to explore my limits as a rider, rather than me exploring the limits of the bike.

I'll never get anything under a liter class ever again. Of my last 7 bikes, 5 have been liter-class. 750's and below don't "fit" my riding style. Good luck with you choice, but remember: HAVE FUN!!

600cc, 750cc, or 1000cc it really doesn't matter to me. I used to have a 2002 R1 and I sold it and got a 97 F3. I could do pretty much everything on my F3 that I did on the R1. Don't get me wrong, I love the 1000cc power and speed, but IT ALL LOOKS THE SAME ON ONE WHEEL

I finally broke it in a couple of days ago and had this thing from 0-140 mph in seconds flat!
Can you tell me approx how many miles the break in period is? Just curious, thanks.

I've got a 600 rr and cant really agree that they are more suited for street riding, stock they have zero midrange, you don't get into good power till 8 or 9 grand, you cant be screaming around all the time or your end could be near. I would agree that the liter bikes have a sickening amount of power including a descent abount of low to midrange power. Power that is usable around town. Also they probley arent turning 7000 rpm at 65 mph which is irritating. 600rr is a poor commuter vehicle if you are sitting in traffic all the time. Im am alot happier with the midrange since I installed a power commander and exhuast.
