Where to download Windows service packs/updates
I have an old XP pro disk that is SP1. I HATE having to do the internet update and downloading through windows all those damn updates. There was a site that had them but I lost the link a long time ago. Anyone know where I can download them?
I'm about to install my 1TB drive and install a fresh copy of XP pro (yes I have a legal disk), but it takes FOREVER to update windows.

Just download them both - burn a dvd - Install SP1, then run these. Not *too* bad.
You can get a winXP sp2 install cd, and I'm waiting for winxp sp3 to show up in my MSDN. I can't offer you my download of it - but I know if you look in the usual places you'll find it as an .iso. Just make sure you don't download one with a VL in the name (volume licence) as it won't work on your computer.
ALSO if you have an OEM version of XP, then your key won't work with a non-oem winXP installation. This is typical of a vendor installed XP. In that unfortuneate case, you'd have to install with the WinXP cd that came with the computer, then do the updates.
Enjoy.

More on volume licence if you are interested... when I setup computers in a lab I start with one machine. I install the volume licence version of XP, the software for the lab, the user preferences... then I sys-prep the machine to put it into a pre-use state. Basically what you get when you buy a computer from HP. The first time you start a sys-prep'ed machine it asks for your name, location, etc... or in my case - I have a script that does that for me.
Anyhow - volume licence means that the key is good for a certain number of installs - so you can install the exact same copy on all of a lab's computers. Very handy - as I can setup one machine, copy the sys-prep'ed image onto all of them (network boot) and do a whole lab in a few hours.

That's not exactly the issue. There are a few flavours of WinXP. There is the brought in a box version. There is the 'came with the computer version' (OEM), and then there is the VL version I have for lab computers at work.
The OEM Key will only work with an OEM install disk. I have run into this problem when I pop in my box version cd, install WinXP, and then type in their serial... and face-palm when I read "OEM" on the sticker.
As for multiple installs - I too have had good luck calling MS. I call them, explain the hardware changes (if they ask) and they give me the confirmation code.
