Question When washing your bike...

When you wash your bike, what precautions are there as far as things that you shouldn't get wet, or things that should definitely lubricate afterwards? This is my first bike, and I'd like to clean it up. I don't want the thing to go all haywire afterwards though.

I've heard of people taking an electric leaf blower to get any standing water out of hard to reach areas. Just be sure and not squirt any water directly into the air intake.

I dont. I wash the entire bike with the hose.. Then I grab a bucket and soap, then I wash it with the hose again, then I dry it off.

The main thing you need to do is clean and re-lube the chain afterwords or it could possibly rust.

I don't spray water directly into the intake or behind the instrument panel. I lube the chain every 500 miles regardless of when I wash it.

The only thing to avoid is high pressure water hoses, they can get water into to places it shouldn't & are handy at peeling of your decals.
I wash mine with a bucket of warm sudsy water & lightly hose of the residue & then give it a good wipe over with a chamois.
