RE: when is it time?
I'd say it's time when ever you think it's time. My first bike is my 929, just cause it's a huge first bike doesn't mean i have to use all that power, i rarely take it over 4-5k rpm's. If you think your ready for a liter bike then your probably ready for a liter bike.
Bike only goes as hard as you make it.

RE: when is it time?
I can honestly say that my 600 has all the power I need. If I ever feel the need for more power/acceleration I just downshift a gear or two. It is funny that a 10 second 1/4 mile vehicle can be considered underpowered by anyone, but if you feel the need to get a literbike (for any reason, even if it is to show off to chicks) go for it. For me, when I ride my buddies 1000RR I ride it exactly the same way as my bike, so even if it had 300 HP, I'd still use maybe only 60 HP at any given time.

RE: when is it time?
No offense, but if you have to ask this question, then most likely you're not ready for a liter bike. I'm very content with my 600RR. My buddy took me up riding near his hometown last weekend, LOTS of hilly/twisty roads (and hors**t on the sides from the Amish)... when we stopped to get some water we got on the conversation about liter bikes. We were thinking "there's no f'in way that you need a liter bike unless you just want to shoot in a straight line" we couldn't even open up our 600's all the way...so, IMO, if you like carving twisties and just flat out riding the 600 is more than enough, if you are more of an open road/drag racing kinda person and thats all then get a 1000...

RE: when is it time?
i got my 1st bike june of last year. it was a 97 f3 , then i got my 2nd bike a 98 f3 in december i rode that untill about 1 month ago when i picked up my 3rd bike a 96 900RR and i had that only for about a month untill i got my 00 929 which ive had for about 1 week now.... i dont think there is a "time limit" on when to upgrade. i think it depends on your comfort/ability and also if you think youre ready. also dont forget to think about what kind of riding you do.
somone who lives in florida with alot of straight aways and very lil turns probably wouldnt benefit from a 600RR.i think you get the point.
when it comes downto it, its your bike if you want a new one then do it.just ride safe andtry to be mature and resonsible in how you ride.

RE: when is it time?
Respect to the 600 guys....the new 6s are more than enough power. Usually you will know if "it's time" to move up, especially if you are a pretty big guy. Truth...good throttle control and experience is the best way to control a liter bike. Another fact...neither you or I, or for that matter the majority of the people on this forum will ever ride a 600 to it's potential much less a liter bike. Give yourself a while...don't rush to get on that liter bike, especially when the bike you have is probably more than you think it is.

RE: when is it time?
Pretty big guy = 230lbs? That's me, anyone want to buy an '06 blue F4i? Do 600's have a shorter wheel base? Everyone keeps talking about twisties and a 600 is better I'm assuming is that why? Or is it just because you have to go the same speed in the corners anyway whether its a 600 or 1000 so it doesn't matter how much power you have?
