RE: What is your favorite regional food?
when i lived in north carolina there were pig roasts everywhere. Just whole pigs cooking in a big bbq. Best pork ever !!
don't know about anything to special around VA. I don't like ham.
oh yea also in NC, there were tobacco fields surrounding my house for miles. And watermelon fields. Barns woods... it was a good time. Rolling huge tobacco blunts eating watermelon everyday as a kid !

/\/\ This guy has never had Texas BBQ.
Being Italian and from New York, I really didn't think I was qualified to judge BBQ, I never had it until I was 25 years old and it was Florida pork BBQ (which I like), but I always wanted to try Texas BBQ, likeshort ribs and Brisket. I really think good BBQ is as hard to make as any food, definitely an art form. Chili too, definitely an art form.

We definitely like our BBQ, at least 3-4 times a week we have BBQ, even if its 20*. Also, you're right, there is an art to it. Many ways to make it cook, but only a few to make it taste absolutely perfect. Like, seering (sp?) a steak on a flame, throwing it on the top rack and smoking the hell out of it. You'll never eat at another steak house again.

I need to get a real smoker though.
This is the best all-around grill/smoker. If you don't have the room for a bunch of different BBQ tools,I like this one (I have the 18 inch model)

Nauree, I thought you hated living in Louisiana?!?
And Okie, I think fishfryer is saying the best food is in NYC, not upstate NY. There are so many awesome italian food places in NYC...NY Deli's for grinders and such...mmmmm...
Chicago Deep Dish was awesome when I was there...
