Question What handicap lets you ride a motorcycle?

I was at IKEA yesterday and there was this Harley parked in one of the blue parking spots with the wheelchair sign.
It was a proper two wheel motorcycle parked on the side stand, not a trike or one with a sidecar.

Just curious if there is a handicap which legally allows one to ride a motorcycle or is it just another one of them bikers.

I have a state issued mobility impaired card and placard for my truck, never thought to get one for my bike lol.

I don't see why it would be illegal for someone who's handicapped to ride a bike. I'm permanently handicapped and never had a problem getting my license and disability card done at the same time.

So if it was illegal to be handicapped and ride a bike i think they wouldn't let me get my M endorsement on my license

O....and my handicap is a hemangeoma through-out my right leg.

I have a friend who is a paraplegic that rides a cruiser w/a sidecar. He is fully licensed to do so. He carries his wheelchair in his sidecar.

Also, I've met others that have sustained combat/mil service injuries that cause pain to walk distances. They are entitled to ride like anyone else. They are properly licensed, have handicap parking permits, & should be able to park in handicap spots.

It's pretty easy to get a Handicap placard, at least here in Louisiana. I see abuse of it al the time - typically in the form of: "gramma has bad hips and can't walk far, and I take her to the store, so I need the Handicapped tag so she doesn't have to walk far."

Even though gramma only goes to the store once a month, that car gets parked up front every day.

Not easy to get if you do it the right way, i had to have a written letter from the specialist doing my MRI's. And then fill out a form listing what all my disability included and the specialist had to sign that and get it notarized.

But i do see a lot of people using others cards to park, I've had people running their mouths when they see me parking. Even had a cop start me a ticket and talk crap....wouldn't even allow me the time to tell him i had a disability card, then after he finished writing it i handed him my card.....he shut up quick and walked off.

Last year, we went for a rideout to Wales and visited a famous bike haunt called The Ponderosa. I saw a few lads come riding in on trail bikes, pulling wheelies etc and didn't think much of it. ..... Until, I saw that one of the lads only had 1 leg (like, from the top down was missing!) ... He put the bike on it's stand, reached for his 2 crutches that were fastened to the side of the bike and went in for a brew with his mates!

Gotta respect that kind of attitude! I have enough problems staying on a bike with ALL my limbs working!

So, I guess there are some genuine cases of riders using disabled bays on a 2 wheeler!

WOW what a coiensidence this thread got started. I did something to my right hand ring finger yesterday during football and its swollen and i cant bend it. I went to the base sick call and they looked at it and had to call in a hand specialist. He said i may have broken my flexor tendon or the sheath that goes over thm and allows them to slide but the xrays showed no breaks in the bone.

So i riding super slow without a right hand glove cause it wont fit over the splint. I have another appointment on wensday and he will decide if i need surgery on it.

I can still ride but i have to take the splint off in order to be able to use the throttle okay. If i buy a cramp buster i can ride with the splint im sure. Still sucks and ive got mad props to people who ride with disabilites. It a new challenge.

Look up Ryan Suchanek. He has 1 leg and is straight bad@ss. He is a sponsored rider and is going for the fastest wheelie on ice in January.
