Just curious as to what everyone started out riding when they first got into motorcycles. I currently haven't had a sport bike yet (getting one in 3 weeks) but grew up riding dirt bikes on the track and trails. I have been on a friends old sport bike before and I have to say there was a big difference between the dirt bikes I was used to riding to and his sport bike.

For the people who had dirt bikes when they were younger, do you think it helped you out when you first got your sport bike or was it just completly different that the only thing you got out of the dirt bike was where the clutch, brakes, and shifter was located?

 

Riding dirt helps tremendously because you can use the controls without thinking about it.

First thing I ever rode was a 2 stroke 125 on dirt. I fell off a cliff, broke my wrist and bought a katana 600 soon as I healed 3 months later. I actually though a bike would be the death of me, not from a crash but because I was scared of my mom.

 

My first was a 2 stroke 125 Yamaha (i think yamaha) been ridin ever since

I think it was a Honda 90 from the mid 60's LOL that thing was awesome. We beat that thing to death and the tranny finally blew up and we junked it. Then I was riding quads and decided to get a bike and a guy I was working with talked me into a rocket so that what I got, a 95 ZX7, now I ride an 02 F4i for a while until I get enough experience to get on a 1000.

1978 cb750, the baby elephant i learned my basics on, its how i learned how to drive a standard transmission, and also got me comfortable with taking **** apart, lol


oh, and those scrapes on the engine guard? yea, i put them there, D'OH!

 

Very first bike was a Honda 80 back in 1982 (I was 10) Have since had 2 CR250's and 2 YZ175's
First street bike was a 1996 ZX7R

 

My 1st ride on the dirt was on a XR80 that a friend of mine had. My 1st street bike was a 1981 CB900C and I kick myself in the *** for ever selling it. I guess the 1st street bike I rode was EX500 that my uncle had atleast that the only one I can think of.

 

Thats the same problem I'm facing right now except with my dad.

hassell, my old boss used to have a 78 CB750. Great old bike.
