before you move in check for leaks water damage and prior damage and take pictures. Wiife and I didn't we just moved to a very nice place this weekend. If our landlord doesn't give us our deposit back (there was alot of prior damage at the last apartmet) we are going to report him for NO working smoke alarms... And no carbon monoxide detectors at all.. Also haven't gotten one receipt for our rent... Check for bugs in cabinents... Ask about utilities.... Basically ask anything that comes to your mind because it's hard to break lease and landlords want ur moey so alot will try and hide things

yeah this one def did, i think i got a lawyer on his case now, thank goodness the lawyers a friend so if its gonna be more than its worth it doesnt take anything to back down
im so mad at my landlord right now, my toilets been flooding the bathroom for like 3 weeks, nothing serious-but thats still nasty, i have to use the other one bc of it, and the worst part is, i could fix it, but if i do he will just continue to rip me off-oh yeah i told him about it, like 3 months ago when it was first starting to mess up
this just makes me wish i had BOUght a house and hate renting even more........

There is the option of withholding rent.
If there are things which are the landlord's responsibility to repair / maintain and he doesn't within a reasonable amount of time, it may be legal for you to withhold your rent until its fixed. Check with your lawyer friend on that as well. Laws vary state to state / county to county.
But my friend is also my landlord. Pisses me off when we have to break plans cause he has to fix something on one of his properties. But that's the reason he jumps right on any issues as soon as he's notified by any of his tenants.
