Do you really have to ask? That is a upgrade from a Honda..... I've been wanting the 9 series Ducati for years. That movie Fled is what got me into motorcycles and Ducati's. Maybe ill buy the 999 next year if I sell the 954. Now would I get rid of the 954 for a 999? Absolutly!!! Without second thought....

Honda Civic<Lamborghini = Honda CBR<Ducati 916/996/998

Tell him to get the Biposto. I'll give my other half a ride for a very shot period of time but the stance of the Ducati will make it that much worse on the driver. I dont personally like giving rides because it is uncomfortable for me. As soon as you have to brake guess who comes slamming into you forcing you into the tank and alot of unnecessary pressure on your forearms??? Yeah my 954 might and thats a big might out perform a Ducati but its still a Ducati. Italians know how to make their vehicles look very very good......

996 was one of the best Duc's ever - certainly a great handling bike - very different to ride with the fierce engine braking. You'll have to get used to not seeing brake lights.....
and watch it.
Would I buy one ?- hell yes, if I could afford the upkeep.

If hes got the cash why not, you only live once, or con him and get him to spend the money on you instead.
