Sound like the 'boy' needs some anger management classes.
I had a similar situation, no-violent for the most part, but verbal abuse can be as damaging as physical abuse, over time.
The relationship won't ever work, IMHO, and they'd both be better off with other partners.

Even at 52 ...I am still one bad *** bastard where it come to dealing with guys that play up..
Any guy goes grabbing hair and dragging a chick around like that ...brother or not ..goes straight to casualty at my bloody hand .. no questions asked ...believe me ...I would not fu%^$ck around with him ....
I personally go into a tad past over kill with guys that do that **** ... (if you could not tell )
I would do as you did plus a whole lot more probably Cat .... so I think you were gentle on him mate ..
Don't you stress about him ...he will chill and realize eventually what and why you did what you did mate ...
