Vent on a few things....
Understand -- I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just suggesting you not judge people because they don't stand. It's not out of blatant disrespect
because pride in one's self has nothing to do with their nation. second you are taking away their freedom to choose and forcing them to do something they don't want to do which sounds very un-american too. what if we had to buy harleys because thats what good americans do? no we have freedom of choice thats why we are on the cbr forum. we chose or aspire ( in my case ) to owne a cbr. its a choice and WE get to make it for our selfs. i am not saying you are right or wrong but you would be depriving those that don't/ didn't stand one of the basic rights that you fought to preserve
No one said force. I said they SHOULD stand/respect the flag. I was simply stating that "I" think people should respect the flag more so. And apparently we don't share the same self-respect because I do see that having self-respect directly reflects in your actions. ei humbling yourself enough to see something bigger than yourself that people have given and continue to give their lives for. Yet again never did I say force anything. And I asked a room full of military personal from all different branches just now and they agree with me.
Also a disagree that this respect is drilled into military personal.. because ALL personal serving in the military rose their right hand to serve the nation before they attended ANY type of training.
Disagree with me or not, no offense but none of you will swade me on this one... Sorry guys
I can agree to disagree.edit: I just reread the entire thread no one said force. Where did that come from?

you are still depriving someone of their freedom of choice. i have a pinched nerve and herniated disc in my neck ( c6 / c7 ) when it first happened i had to be carried off the job, taken out of a semi feet first. standing for the flag was not an option at the time. but why i was sitting was no ones buisness but mine. while i look to be ok i am not, there is no visable sign of my condition but you want to make me stand and when you find out why i didn't stand you'll excuse me. NO this is a free country and we as individuals get to make our own decisions. i am not saying anyone is right or wrong but don't take away the right to make a choice. if you were not drafted into the armed services you made a choice to join just as some chose not to join. so if you choose to join then why ? financial, to further your education, civic duty? i know plenty that joined the service to learn a trade, get money for college. or just to have a job. had nothing to do with protecting the country. protecting the country was just their way of getting money for college, learning a trade, or having a job. some of them stand some don't and these are people that served. what will you mandate they do next. you are teetering on a slippery slope and the best thing you can do is leave them alone
I think its due to the lack of "respect" taught from generation to generation. I will tell my pregnant wife to get up and shut up (although I dont need too), I will make my kids get up and shut up. My next generation will understand and respect that flag....and so will my grandchildren one day.
Bubba, most understand, some dont. It would take them seein what we have seen to understand. Im extremely proud to see my flag flyin high.
Parading and Saluting the Flag
When carried in a procession, the flag should be to the right of the marchers. When other flags are carried, the flag of the United States may be centered in front of the others or carried to their right. When the flag passes in a procession, or when it is hoisted or lowered, all should face the flag and salute.
The SaluteTo salute, all persons come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart. Members of organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge.

This is on this website
you just don't get it.
I honestly think people such as yourself are the reason our country is in the downward spiral it is currently in. If people would take the hard right instead of the easy wrong. Admit when they are wrong and accept the consequences, I think this country would be a much better place. Standing your you flag shows that you have patriotism, that you are a good citizen. And by all means it is a stand if you can ( i know you mentions handicaps or disabilities prior.) But honestly, do you not respect your country and what your flag represents enough to stand up for it and show that respect? Or do you think it is "OK" to burn the flag? Stomp on it? Afraid you are going to hurt someones feeling, so your are acceptable to everything? Well not me, In this case I don't care if I **** someone off, but respect what others have done to give you the freedoms and rights that you have. If that is as simple as STANDING UP! and remaining quiet just for a couple of minutes, HOW FREAKING HARD IS THAT? Considering all that you have here in the USA. Is standing up, and saying one nation under God really too hard?

Just a little branch pride, is all.
Only another Marine would find the strength to stand up from his wheelchair when Dress Blues march past!
No, not really. Anyone with enough dignity and respect for their country and those who protect it would rise to stand as that gentleman did.
But I do enjoy flying the flag.

I will admitt that your dress blues look alot better than my Icecream Man suit.
You have to stand for something or you will fall for anything
Maybe they don't know or haven't bothered to find out that it's a voluntary, outward expression of the will to serve in the present while honoring the past and protecting what is to come. As well as getting a leg-up on higher education and improving their own lives as Americans.
This intent is what people like the gentleman in the photo recognize and feel freely obliged to stand up and acknowledge. They're not ignorant of the sacrifice born by individuals or the nation as a whole. Those who sit, are.
