Yeah, pretty sad their first reaction was to kill it. Looks like a hairless sloth from what i've been reading.

hmmm maybe an alien and a sloth decided to get busy one night and......... well, it would have all worked out if it weren't for those meddling kids!

that thing looks a lot like a sloth to me.
Ever seen one? Imagine it with no hair.
Hairless sloth.
Make sense!

Although.... an alien and sloth getting busy would be much more fun.....

They probably ate it for dinner. Towards the end, it looked like they cut off the head and gutted it.
