Default Telescopes

im looking into getting a telescope for the first time. i took an astronomy class at school and became interested. im very new to telescopes. does anyone know of a good beginner telescope? refracting or reflecting?

i bought one a while back, ended up selling b/c i needed money, but i had a refracting. i think they are better. mine came with an electronic motor to move with the rotation of the earth, but do you know how hard it is to set that thing up pointing exactly 0* N??? it was supposed to auto find and move with constellations/stars/planets, but i never got it setup right. btw, telescopes are awesome!

Dudes,
Astronomy is cool and stuff. You can tell the future and see if you are compatible with chicks and what not and so forth.
