Taxes Blow....

Things like donations to charities, investment expenses, even the price of my tax program goes on my list. This year we also get to add medical expenses. Most years we didn't meet the 5% minimum of our total income to be able to add that one but we had some major medical expenses in 2010 and I made sure to keep records of every medical-related dollar we spent.
I always use Turbo Tax and wait for it to go on sale before buying it. It pulls data from previous years into my current return and it helps keep me from overlooking some deductions that I would have forgotten about. It also has an option to guide you through the long form with itemized deductions and tell you at the end if you would have come out ahead by just taking the standard deduction and then it will process your return that way. When you're ready for your state return Turbo Tax pulls the data from your federal, asks a few questions and you're done with that one, too.

My main deduction is interest on my mortgage. That gets me 'over the hump' as far as getting more back instead of taking the standard deduction. When I rented I never had enough to itemize.

Yeah TurboTax has been good for me for several years.
Me and my wife live in a house that belongs to her parents, rent free (not as good as you guys may think - lol, 1 bedroom, 1 bath tiny little place built in the 30's, but it's home for now. Medical expenses were nothing hardly last year, and now I'm using a FSA for my health plan, not 100% sure if I'll even burn thru the amount my employer contributes that I have to burn thru before I'm required to start meeting anything out of pocket.
No kids, and the wife is a graduate student, we got a decent amount back due to her educational/tuition status.

oh well.
My problem is I make a good bit of money, but single, no kids, no education depts, and rent.
Not the worst problem in the world, but man I really don't like the idea of shelling out another 3 grand.
