Back in the day some of this was common and not illegal.

George Washington grew cannabis for fiber production and cannabis did not start becoming illegal until around 1906.

Abraham Lincoln did sleep in the same bed with one of his guards but it was his most trusted guard and this was not a uncommon practice.

Duels were legal ways to settle ones differences back in the day.

So by todays standards it may look bad but back then it was just fine.
