Skin abrasion - how should I let it heal (with photos)
#11
I spent a few days in the burn center. Short and sweet. Neosporin, and clean bandages three times a day if you can. Let it air out only at night time if you have to. That blister looking stuff might be an allergic reaction? Doesn't look like normal road rash healing up. If you can get your hands on it, buy some xeroform, and put directly on the wound then cover with a bandage. The xeroform works wonders and will speed healing / reduce scarring greatly.

I gotta agree with Aken, at the very least you could go to your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist if he has any suggestions.
I can tell you one way to have that thing dried up in about a week. It isn't much fun but it works: Bring a small pan of water to a boil, remove from heat and stir in about a cup or two of Epsom Salt. While the water is still hot enough to make you cuss n' holler put a wash cloth in the pan and give it a few seconds to get hot, remove from pan, and put it on top of your abrasion. Let it sit there until the cloth starts to cool. rinse and repeat until the water isn't hot any more. Hurts like hell, but it will draw any infection out of the wound and dry it out. Repeat daily.

I talked about why I have been weary about going to my doctor in one of my first posts. Anyways... I let it scab over and it doesn't hurt at all. It looks a little better already. No more weird bumps. Thank you guys for your help. I set up a doctor's appointment for next week anyways.
As for the bike. Because of my swingarm spools, frame sliders and bar ends, the damage is actually pretty minimal.
Just a little sandpaper and spray paint and you can hardly tell it ever happened. Oh and a new mirror... The glass came out and shattered. Overall I got very very lucky. I couldn't be happier with spending that $200 two days before my crash.
Thank you guys for your help. Everything is going to be a-ok I think.
