Sad irony.

OK, so I started riding back in the 70's and very quickly learned the benefits of a full face helmet vs an open face when some random bumble bee decides to end his life at 120 k/hr against your right cheek.
But I wonder how many of us here can honestly stick their hand up and say " I have never broken the speed limit in the area I have been riding in"?

Let's be honest, we chose to observe the rules that we want too, but the rest of them only apply to other people.

In no way a criticism, just an observation.

the way i look at it, just because somethings a good idea does not mean it should be a law

a lot of people seem to be on the it affects me bc of higher insurance rates bandwagon, but with that logic anything that can potentially injure someone should be regulated/taxed/outlawed

every one has its opinions about the issue, here in ohio after a year of havig your motorcycle license you are allowed to ride without a helmet and sadly i see a lot of people riding without them.

well it all boils down to riders choice and opinion, where all of us (no exceptions) deep down know that little fact, helmets save lives.

people should choose to wear a helmet, not be forced to wear one by law.

i'm sorry we lost another rider, RIP.

If he had been obeying the law instead of protesting it, maybe you wouldn't need to be wishing him to rest in peace.

As much as I'd gladly let Darwinism cull the herd, it just doesn't work out that neatly.

Apart from your own skull, you've got to think about the consequences of your nut hitting a solid object very hard from everyone else's point of view too.
The ambulance has to come to get you. The Doctors and nurses have to try to keep you alive. Your relatives will shed tears, take time out of their busy lives..... for what? Because you decided to be a an outright ****?
I'm sorry but lets not ***** foot around here. This guy did only one thing by dying, namely to underline how stupid the whole demonstration was in the first place.
I can go along with the argument that you shouldn't have to have common sense put into legilaslature but unfortunately far too many people don't exhibit enough common sense for that to be left to freedom of choice. Why should we as a society, where ever you may be in the world have to keep on coughing up our hard earned tax money for other people's total stupidity to eat into the pot. I'm sure we can all think of many, many other things we'd like to see our money spent on other than scraping squids off the roads. The law sucks on many counts but in this situation it's 100% correct.
Maybe Harley riders will learn to wear some decent gear one day, though I doubt it. We still keep on paying for those retards to get over their gravel rash don't we?
I'd like to see the law go further. If you're riding a motorcycle with bare skin showing you should have your license taken away. Full bloody stop.
I won't say RIP in this case. I bet his family are still crying. Idiot!

Always nice to be able to choose.

It's convenient not to wear a helmet if you're just moving yer bike a couple blocks or running errands in town.

I don't see any reason to ride bareheaded, and never would. But you need to be careful with laws designed to protect adults from the consequences of their own decisions. Just like many of us might think it's nuts to ride without a helmet, I can guarantee you that there are plenty of people who think it's nuts to ride a motorcycle at all. So who do you want making that decision?

The same people that see responsible motorcyclists being responsible. Motorcycles per se, like cars will of course never be banned. We all have to get about. It's just the way you do it, and the sense of responsibility we must all share for our fellow road users, friends, family and society at large.
Motorcycle lobby groups mainly push common sense in the right direction in the right places. Governments and law makers have to look at the big picture and make decisions. That's why we vote for them and fingers crossed they do what we need of them, most of the time.

since this thread morphed some....

i am all for no *new* helmet/gear laws.

Where Do You Draw The Line, if riding without a helmet is stupid and suicidal, how is riding a motorcycle on the street that much different, when compared to riding in a car or bus. It is a very slippery slope.

oh and leathers will not help you against the bumper of a car...

Personally anytime I leave the parking lot I have a minimum of ff helmet, gloves, and footwear.
