I always buy my tires online and my local shops charge 40 for the front and 60 for the read. I forgot what the price is if you bring in just the rim but i know its pretty cheap. Ive never paid over 200 for a rear tire and install though.

So i was assuming it wouldnt cost more than 200 to get the tire changed. Anyone whos done this before what have you paid?
whats the name of the shop? other members in your area should be advised of their prices.

Im not trying to bad mouth the guy, ive talked to him a couple times and hes always been real nice and helpful. This just seems a little excessive for a rear tire. I dont know his pricing on anything else either, plus hes been very fair about it and isnt charging me for anything until i ask him to do some work. He also did a quick once over the chain and everything else that can be looked at without tearing into the bike for me for free. Obviously not time consuming or labor intensive at all but it was a nice gesture. It is in syracuse, ny though. If he did a bunch of stuff then hit me with a big bill at the end i would be more than willing to spread the word but at this point i dont think thatd be right.

I paid $203 for a set of Metzler M3s from Motorcycle superstore. Local shop charged me $88 dollars for mounting and balancing plus $3 bucks a tire for disposal.

Honda shop wanted close to $200 for just a rear tire.

just find out what he charges for labor by the hour. its probably an hour of labor for the rear. that does seem really high though (but i haven't bought tires from a shop/had them mounted by a shop for a LONG time).

just shop around.

yup i called two shops by me at home and the price was $55 and $60 if i bring a tire in. So im most likely gonna find a tire online for around 100-120 and bring it in.

if you can get them off the bike and bring in just the wheels, that should save even more $$$

you can even get higher quality tires if you do that. ebay really saves a buck

just depends if they'll charge for less than an hr. labor. some places will charge by 1/2 hr intervals, some places have a min. of 1 hr. labor though too. 55/hr is pretty typical for labor rates

Yeah ive always been a little nervous when it comes to messing with the wheels on my bike. Ive been too afraid to mess up the alignment or something else thatll end up being disastrous. Plus i dont have a stand or anything for the bike so id have to find some way to keep it up after take the wheel off. I should invest in a stand i guess but at this point id rather pay the $55 and have the shop do it. Ill look at some tire reviews then check out ebay for prices to see if i can save a little bit more then.

Talking

$280 for the rear...that should be stealership price after Tax. To riders that don't DIY much, it is always best to locate a local mechanic that you can trust. Search around, there are many good ones out there but you must find them. Thru friends, families, riding buddies...ditto.. Dealers is TOO COSTLY $$$$$

Regarding the tires, I purchase F/R dunlop Q2 set for roughly under $200 shipped online. I take it to my local motorcycle mechanic & he install /align/ balance both from & back for $60. I believe he said $35 rear / $25 front....this is great price. So $260 for F/R install Dunlop Q2...thats still cheaper than $280. Not to mention my rear is 180

Depending where you live, I'm in the city (South Bay) so competition is strong thererfore many mechanic quote very competitive prices. You have to find one for yourself & keep a good relationship...maybe some CBRF members may reference some too...
