Im pretty sure its as stated above... Your light will start blinking when its on the "reserve" part of your tank... tellin ya you better get to a station fairly quick. A friend of mine tried to ride his out of gas because hes storin it for a bit (headin to afghanistan :S) and he never did run it out. It was blinking for quite a few miles, so not to worry too much when it comes on, just kinda a reminder that your low :P but I dont think there is a switch to go onto your reserve, I do believe that has changed for the better.

I have an 03 and i pretty sure as stated above that since they put a gauge in the cluster...theyve done away with the reserve switch.

Ditto to what others have said. My bike goes straight to reserve w/o the switch. Good luck trying to find it though

This brings up another point however - why in the heck don't they put a "regular" gas gauge on the bike?!?!? I mean, is it THAT TOUGH!?!? It's normally not that big of a deal when I'm just toolin' around town but when I'm out on the backroads, that blinking gauge can really stress you out when you're not sure where the next petrol' station is!!!!

OK, I'm done now.

yeah... NO reserve switch on our bikes (600RR at least). when your gas light blinks... you're basically on reserve which means you've got just under a gallon left (.9 to be exact). that should get you at least 25 more miles and hopefully you'll get to a gas station by then
