I found out on Sunday that riding in the rain on a bike is easier than driving a car other than the fact that you get totally freakin drenched that is. We went to the AMA superbike races at Road America and on the way home on one of the city streets I had walls of water from the cars next to me going above my head the road was so bad. Every time I saw one of the cars in front of me plow through one of these gigantic puddles I freaked out because I knew I was about to go through one at 50 mph. Not once did I feel the bike slip or hydroplane I was quite suprised, I thought 2 wheels would be more difficult than 4.

i havent had the experience yet. .

i mean, ive been stuck driving in light rain. but not any downpours or anything.

 

did you lean like them racers at road america? those rain race tires have more grooves and lines in them than an old lady's skin! sick lean with them tires...i couldn't stand to watch the races because everytime i see them go in hot and come out of the turn on the throttle, made my sphincter tighten up...

 

most of it is because the tires are so narrow they cut through the water where as car tires are wider can't do that aswell especailly at higher speeds.

 

+1, the flat design of car tires makes them ideal for hydroplaning, much harder to hydro when you are slicing right through the water.

 

I know this is the wrong post but thats why nascar doesn't race in the rain compared to moto

I haven't ridden mine in the rain yet. I'm somewhat scared to being new to the bike and all. I'll have to at some time on purpose to get used to the feeling/idea in case I ever get caught in it. Hell, there's a 40% chance of T-storms today in my area and I rode mine to work this morning.

 

as long as you are easy with her, she will do great, its alot easier than i though it was gonna be, now the only thing i dont like is the wet part, but other than that, its fine
