Question wiring new lights in house.
So my room has crappy lighting. Theres like 1 light coming off the side of the wall and at night it getts really dark. I want to install some track lighting on the ceiling. How should I go about doing this? Like should I remove the light I already have and wire the the track lighting in its place? Not sure exactly what needs to be done as far as voltages and wattages running though the line.

track lighting is actually really easy...the only problem i see is that you only have a light coming off the side of the wall...
essentially with track lighting you get a single box that runs electricity down the line....the installed lights on the track have a transformer so you don't need to worry about voltage....if it's an actual switched light...it's getting standard 120 volt....all track work like this (at least most) and the lights will only use 12volts....
you could mount the track to the wall and buy angled track lights so you would have like a wall of lights and you could shoot them however....
all in all...track is REALLY easy to put in...just take off the existing light (FLIP OFF THE BREAKER - learned that the hard way once being stubborn, damn near killed myself)...undo the hot and ground....wire those up to the track block, you'll see what that is (the track connects to it)....and screw in the ground wire to the wire box and done....
hardest part is making sure that track is level...because if it's off....it's screwed into the wall and people will know...
i have installed two sets...one with a funky bending track and one that i had to get creative and make a "t" shaped track and cut pendulum lights and everything...was a pain in the *** but it looks sweet....
if you got questions, let me know...

I thought about that problem with the light coming off the wall instead of the ceiling. I'd really like it on the ceiling. Could I buy some extra wires and run them up the wall and across the ceiling? Not really worried about asthetics since I'd take the track with me when I move out.

ehhhh...running actual indoor wiring along the ceiling is likely not up to code and is more importantly pretty dangeours...i would first see if you could do it on the wall....else you have to run the wires in conduit through the wall and lower it into the ceiling....

okay well i wouldn't want to have to post a "where is nauree - did he electrocute himself?" thread...hahaah....
but in all seriousness...i zapped myself putting in a dimmer switch and was hurting for hours....you really don't want to have wiring like that exposed...
