I agree with most of what has been said already. Are you crate training or does he just run amock?Just remember that anything you let a puppy do now, you better be prepared to let him do it his whole life. Dogs don't understand why you let him do something yesterday, but today you're yelling at him for it.
As far as house-training goes: Positive re-enforcement works best. Take the puppy outside TO THE SAME SPOT in the yard every time to do the biz. Take him out after every nap, after every meal, after every 20 mins of play time, 1st thing in the morning, and right before the last person in the house goes to bed. Praise him for doing the deed.
Also, for accidents in the house, all you need to do is make sure you get rid of those odors. Get a good carpet/floor cleaner so the pup can't smell his signal that this is where he can eliminate.

So here's another update. We have been taking him out religiously and have started taking him out once an hour (and afetr naps and feeding). He has started having accidents (#2) by the front door where we take him out, and I see that as a success. His #1 accidents happens wherever still(to include his crate???), but I will give him another two weeks until I start beating him.... He is a smaller more sissy version of a dog, but...DOGS RULE!!! What a great pet...

I haven't been on in awhile, so...anyways, it sounds like he's making pretty good progress. Like I said before, sometimes it takes some dogs a very long time to be completely house broken. And yes, him poopin' by the door, believe it or not, is progress. He knows where he's suposed to go, but being that he's just a pup, and you or your wife maybe busy at the time, he can't hold it like an adult dog so he starts grunting and pushing and leaves you a nice lil present. It sounds like you and your wife have a pretty good routine going on. Just keep it up and Buddy will make ya' proud!

The best thing ever just happened!!! I totally $hit my @$$ (it smelledrank, like the underside of a leper's *******)and my wife blamed the puppy [sm=icon_rofl.gif]. I said, maybe I need to take him out because he probably has to poop. As if on cue, I took him out, and after a couple of minutes he went poo. He just woke up from a nap, and hadn't pooped yet since the last time he ate. It coulnd't have happened any more perfectly! [sm=happybounce.gif]

He is a little ****...but how did we live our life without him ? He still has a few accidents, but has actually barked at me a few times to let him out to go poo. Also, since we know his schedule better, we know when to take him out and he almost alwasy goes...as long as we keep him on his schedule he does great. Before, we were physically carrying him out because he was scared of the outside (he is just a baby), but now, we can open the door, say "outside", and he will go out if he has to potty (otherwise he just stares at us like we are stupid). So, overall he is doing great. We continue to be patient, and it may sound totally queer, but his addition to our family has added something to my relationship with my wife. Maybe it is because we can't have kids together, and this feels like having a baby. I don't know. He is just a very special addition.

Okay, so I just got that EVO food, the all-natural, whole foods, no filler, dry dog food and everything went perfectly until today. I came home and there were bits of explosive diarrhea everwhere--on the carpet, a little on the walls, in every room in the house. I didn't even think that this might happen, changing your dog's regular food to something else, even if it is twice as good for him, could lead to an upset tummy. Do you guys think I should mix in a little of the old with the new or will he get better sooner by staying with the new? My dog is my kid too, and I really don't care about the (stinky, holy ****!) house as much as Bruce's health, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sorry, I should add he's a four year old Rottweiler tipping 135 lbs and he's been eating Nutro his entire life.

Damn, sorry to hear about that Spirit. Hope the "lil" fella gets better. If it were me, as much as the EVO is very healthy, etc., I wouldn't feed him that anymore. I mean, you could try to mix some of his "old" food with the EVO, like a 70("old")/30(EVO) blend, then progress to like 60/40, 50/50 and so on until you eventually feed him a whole bowl of the EVO. BUT, like I said, I wouldn't do it just because it may cause him some more problems. If it upsets his tummy, his body might not adjust to it and he could get sick or whatnot. That's pretty unusual for a Rott to do that. Usually they can handle just about anything and take a liking to just about any type(s) of food. Nutro is an excellent brand of food and if for some reason you choose not to give him anymore EVO, or he doesn't take a liking to it if you try the mixture thing, you can't go wrong with Nutro.

Geez...135, I'm suprised that you don't feed him t-bone steaks by the dozen [8D].
