Default pulled over while riding

I went for a ride today with two other guys. Mostly country roads that pass thru some small towns. When we got to one of the towns, I see a cop pull out of a side street and he starts following us. He flashes the lights and we turn onto another street and pull over. As we pulled over, I start to hear sirens in the distance. By the time I took my helmet off and key out of the ignition, several other cops pull up. I'm talking two different counties and what was probably the towns entire force. I start to get a little nervous, trying to recall if we had done anything. Cops tell us they're looking for a group of sportbikes, one of them being yellow. Since mine is yellow i start to get a little nervous. They take our licenses and tell us that they've been chasing the bikes and lost them after the bikes spilt up. They claimed they had "my" yellow bike on tape doing all of this. As we our pulled over, a car pulls up and claims that he was cut off by us and he almost had a wreck. We let them know that it wasn't us and that we had just gotten into this area. As one of the cops reviewed the tapes to see if it was my bike, the others were trying to get me to confess, saying that if I admitted to it before he looks at the tape, I won't get into as much trouble. I kept telling them it wasn't me. Eventually, the other cop comes back, saying that if it is me and I don't confess, I could be charged and face jail time if I don't confess. Well they eventually let us go after taking down our info and no one got any tickets. I would like to say that we were not the ones running from the cops. We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

just don't talk to them again without getting a lawyer or we'll be hearing a very different story in a few months when they never find the person

I've heard this type of dodo so many times before from different people, not just riders, so it seems it's not just confined to America.
Usually starts the same way, "Where looking for someone who matches your description........." You did well by not losing your bottle & and admit to something you did not do, which the pecker heads where trying to do. Don't know if they do it because their bored or wot?? I think that they use the ploy to try and get you for somehing, anything else. A few cops over here use it to bypass "reasonable doubt" so they can either take you back to the station or conduct searches. They use it to pull over cars, stop you on the street & enter houses.
Years ago I pulled onto an Expressway and within about 5 minutes was pulled over by the highway patrol, claimed I had sped passed him miles back and he had been trying to catch me. He was a surly sod, did the "Respect his Authorty" routine. Even after I explained I had just entered the Freeway, Gave me "your lying" look. He would have happily given me a ticket (after all, all bikes riders speed!) which makes us an easy "mark".
So I produced the credit card docket that I used to buy petrol with, which not only had the time of purchase, but the place, which put me miles away from the freeway.
You would think that would have been enough?, nope went over my two week old bike, and then did the "Radio" (read "intimidation ploy")check. Asked where I was going, why was on the road that time of day (7:30am) duh! "work!" Then pretended to write down my details like it really mattered.
Result for him, wasted 20 minutes of my time. then tried to make out he was a nice guy for not booking me.
So when I got to work I rang the highway patrol to complain, not that they cared, but I got them to log the complaint, got the details of who I was talking to, and told them that I may take it further. No intention of course. but you got to use the same rule book their supposed to go by.

I can see the confusion. The average public knows absolutely zero about bikes. All they understand or relate to is the color of it. If you were to peel off the manufacturer's stickers, they wouldn't have the slightest clue as to what kind of bike it even is. All they relate to is 'crotch rocket' and it's color.
Hell, when I got my one and only speeding ticket on my bike it stated color: PURPLE (it's really blue) Make: HONDA CFR (try CBR). I was surprised he even got the Honda part right.

yea i'm not worried about it anymore. i was thinking the same thing about them just trying to get us to admit to something. when i saw about 5 other sops pull up i thought i was going to jail. one thing odd about their story though. when they first started talking to me, they said that they were looking for a yellow bike and the rider had a yellow jacket. by the end of this situation, they were looking for a guy with a black jacket (like mine). but whatever. i know they ain't got my on video, so i'm not gonna sweat it. just got another story to tell

Man, everytime i get pulled over 50 other cop cars always come out of nowhere and decide to stop, too. Doesnt matter if it is on the bike or in my cage. Why do they do that? It is pretty embarrassing to be ticketed in the first place, but more so when you are surrounded by 10 cop cars. Then it takes longer to get your ticket and leave because they are all grab assing around with each other like they have all the time in the world.

hmmmmmmmmm Couldn't you fight it and say it wasn't you since everything was wrong on the ticket? I would have tried that. /shrug

Flip-
I believe when you get pulled over and they start talking on their radio to head quarters or whatever all the other cops can hear where they pulled you over and what's going on and go just to help offer protection. They never really know who's going to pull a gun on them especially if they are alone pulling you over. /shrug

We do have some officers on here parhaps they can offer some enlightenment.

Around here, we have different zones. And then so many cars per zone. So, when you are getting pulled over, they call out their location, and if nothing else is going on, one or two other zone cars may come (or even the CRPL, SGT, or LT). Its mandatory, unless swamped, that if the person that is being pulled over has (1)numerous tickets, (2)ever ran, (3) someone with who they've dealt with on a regualar basis ,or (4) have warrants, backup has to come. Its not always because of you, sometimes its because of officers safety. Other zone cars may come if you are pulled over on a busy street to help warn other cars to get over, or bloack a lane. Its not always because they think you are going to do something. Its just for safety reasons, that are not always channeled towards you. But as of late, look at all of the officers who have been shot (especially in the Orlando area). ITs becaoming more of an issue, so safety and backup is becoming more of an issue.

Since they believed you had already fled from them, other officers had started towards the stop. If I heard another officer check out with a vehicle that had already fled once, then I would be on my way to assist him. When I worked patrol and someone made a traffic stop near me, I would always head towards the stop. It was just a way to look out for the other officers on that shift. You never wanted anyone alone on a traffic stop. Traffic stops are dangerous and deal very much with the element of the unknown. It could be grandma with cookies or Ted Bundy with a body in the trunk. So for what the officers thought they had, the numbers were probably about right. Plus depends how bored everyone was that day.

Now if the stop was run the way you said it was, it kinda irks me a little bit. If they had video, then the officer who said you ran from him would have been close enough to see and identify you regardless. Your confession would have meant nothing if he could ID you. The decision to cite you, arrest you, or release you could have been made without a word said by you. Sounds like he caught a glimpse of the bike and maybe it could have been you. So they just tried to bluff you into saying something, its been done before and it works. I have used it. The guilty confess thinking there is a tape or evidence. Did they mirandize you? That could make using your statement tricky, but not impossible. Just sounds like a fishing expedition with a yellow bike, and they really don't know who it is.
