If this is our land .... Why are we paying so much money to indian tribes to have casinos on "their" land ? because it was the land of their ancestors.
So should we start paying all mexicans to be on their land aswell since itdid belong to their ancestors aswellin the 1800 's ??

I think you should be able to speak Mandarin to be a part of this world, since, it is the most spoken language in the world. So, why don't you get the hell off my planet, since you don't speak it.

I bet Canada does not have all these problems. It seems everyone wants to come to America for some reason, but once they get here they want to live and act like they are still in there native country. I say if you want to be a part of something so badly the embrace it-don't change it, becasue it will just become more like what you left. I mean a fresh start is just that-A fresh start, not same **** differant place.
I'm all for people being themselves and staying true to what they hold dear, but at the same time they need to adapt not expect everything else to change for them.
Like was said before. If one of us moved to Japan we would have to learn and adapt to there ways and not expect them to cator to us.

Wow, being canadian we dont seem to have this problem, or maybe people do have the problem up here but just shut up about it. See when I go to the university, it doesnt look like a canadian school, walking around you would think you are in China, as the unniversity has a VERY large population of chinese students. Am I offended by this? absolutely not, is it kind of strange? well yes. Now quebec as some of you may know, is our french speaking province, and yes we only have 1, the rest are english excluding mine which is bilingual (french/english). But when i go to quebec, do you think there is a single english sign? No, maybe on the highway but that'd be about it. Does it frustrate me yes, why because every other stopsign in the darn country is bilingual. But theres nothing that can be done because it is a french speaking province so not required to put english on their signs.
now the only reason i told that is so everyone can see i can relate.
now the ever so popular topis of spanish speaking immigrants. Now lets take a look at a few things.
People get pissed off when someone working at mcdonalds speaks spanish or has a strong spanish accent.......question? How many of you actually want to work at mcdonalds?
Spanish garden companies or landscapers? Usually they charge a much lower rate than the true american ones.
Point is that there are some jobs in America that lets face it, some americans will not do. So basically immigrants are needed to fill these job positions. Not to mention, that local/businesses are going to appeal to the Majority in any particular area. So in florida just for example....do you honestly believe that the majority is going to be american, or forign?
And you cannot just simply say, if youre going to live in our country you HAVE to learn english, i'm sorry but thats not what being a free country is about, freedom of SPEECH (in any language), freedom of expression (also in any language). now dont get me wrong, ive worked in the automotive industry as well as customer service, and it is very annoying when someone cant speak english and can not only notfully explain what they want, but doesnt understand your response when you finally figure out what they mean. so in my opinion, i think that it should be strongly recommended to learn english if youre immigrating into the usa or even canada for that matter, but you cant force someone to do something. Not to mention English is the most difficult language to learn since we have like 3 different ways to spell too. that **** is confusing. I mean my god we have kids in school here learning french right from grade 1-12 and most of them still cannot fully speak it.

I think that our schools can't even teach our own children to read English in the first place. We are producing a bunch of illeterate f_cks in this country. You should read one of my step daughter's english reports. If we don't have very high expectations for ourselves then why should we give two ****s about what others are doing? Also, I would be more angry at the government about illegals getting benefits than some dude that speaks broken English. They wouldn't take advantage of the rules if our government didn't allow it. My granparents were born in Mexico, but came over legally. I am half Mexican, but I also think we spend too much money caring for those that live in our country illegally. I would rather see that money go towards education...or giving me a tax break.
Woo for President.
All I know is I went to some korean/thai mix restaurant in Gwinnett and no one there spoke a lick of english so I pointed to a pic of what I wanted and had some of the best concoction of food I've ever tasted. Maybe we should all learn sign language and hope for a borderless world.
Flame on .. I'm off to sing kumbaya and hold hands with my neighbors.

Are you racist? Do you discriminate? Do you think you are better than everyone else in this world? Are you offended because someone has a Scottish accent? Do you think you are better than blacks? Do you think you are better than women? Maybe you have blue eyes...because, you know...all blue eyed people cause all the trouble.
I concede that English is the most commonly used language in United States, but it is not the only. To learn a new language is far more difficult as an adult than a child. In terms of the world, the most commonly used language is Mandarin.

As for the language in the United States, I understand your point of view. I don't think it's a matter of tolerance, but business that drives this. Considering that there are so many Spanish speaking individuals in this world and in the United States, it makes good business sense to have accessiblity to those other cultures.

#1 They should! to be part of this country you would think one would want to learn the commonly used language.
#2 English is the commonly used language. Native Americans as we all know were not part of making this country and were forced out, pushed to the side.(can't change the past) that is why we gave em all these damn casinos. I j/k
#3 No, but that is the topic here. were not helping by translating/speaking spanish. so there is no need to learn english.
#4 Intolerant.....When you don't try why should we be tolerant. Were in this problem cause wewere tolerant and it has came back and bit us in the ***.

The map below depicts the linguistic subdivisions ("languages" or "dialect groups") within China itself. The traditionally-recognized seven main groups, in order of population size are:
[ul][*]Guan (Mandarin) 北方話/北方话 or 官話/官话, (c. 885 million),[*]Wu 吳/吴 , which includes Shanghainese, (c. 77 million),[*]Yue (Cantonese) 粵/粤, (c. 71 million),[*]Min 閩/闽, which includes Taiwanese, (c. 60 million),[*]Xiang 湘, (c. 36 million),[*]Hakka 客家 or 客, (c. 34 million),[*]Gan 贛/赣, (c. 31 million) [/ul]
If someone speaks Mandoarin do they fully understand Taiwanese? Probably not so your numbers are off a little.
Am I a racist? In your eyes probably. Do I discriminate? Yes I do! I refuse to do business with any company that I knowingly hire Illegal workers IE: car washes, landscapers/gardeners, sub contractors, street vendors, day labor (Labor ready) and such. Sure I probably buy products from the store that has been handled by illegal workers.
