The MSF course replaces the riding portion of your DMV test in most states. Check into it.

wish the california one was that easy.. we have to go around in a circle. there are 2 lines that make up the circle and you have to go around it with out your bike leaving the lines.. i've practiced it a few times and am going to have to take the msf class.. 200$
I don't remember the circle, but I do remember doing a 180deg curve between the lines and having to do a figure 8 in a box that was so small if you didn't do it perfect you went outside of the box or put your foot down and lost points. If you crash, you fail.

I'm from Pennsylvania and I took the MSF course. They do provide you with a bike, usually with 125s with a couple of 250s and a dirt bike thrown in the mix. There was a written portion, which is your basic driver knowledge, but based on the point of view a motorcyclist. Easy test, nobody fails he/she gives you the answers in a discussion type format. The rider portion was a series of coastin' in traffic (i.e. ridin' the clutch), figure 8's, u-turns, at speed turns with stops at about 15-20 mph and panic stops. I found it very educating and recommend all who are thinking of riding to take it. It's free in PA as long as you have a motorcycle permit, which cost $10. To get a motorcycle permit you just need a regular driver's license.

When I took my course even the worse of riders got their license, it's all in the good nature of safety. They emphasize it is a basic rider course. So many people are out there ridin' without a license or skill. Be safe and enjoy the ride. PA does offer an experienced rider course, which you use your own bike, but you have to have your license for 6 months.

Trueblood22,

I have to take mine in a week or so here in Missouri as well.

My buddy said this.
1. weave around some reflectors/cones (Real tite so you have to go slow)
2. drive between the reflectors/cones (real straight) and you have to take x amounts of seconds (real slow)
3. drive to 20 then stop in a square
4. shift from 1st to 2nd back to first then stop in a square

Thanks
Thom

yeah i took mine about 8 months ago in texas. we used their bikes(all 250s). and had to do alot of riding in circles, u turn in a tight *** box(i never could do it) the 180 degree turn, the 20mph stop, couple other weaving maneuvers, we had to go straight at the instructor at 25mph and he would hold up his left or right arm and whichever one he held up you had to swerve that way and miss him, and of course there was a big last test that had all the skills mixed up together. our instructor told us we were going to practice the tests first, and when we were done practicing they had already graded us, that way nobody got nervous. this part replaced the riding for the DMV, however i still had to take another riding test at the dmv to get my license. they let you take this one up to 2 times a day, and not sure how many days, but i was under the impression as many as you need.

i know in texas the msf course replaces the "skill" test. i took my msf course....ummm.....2 years ago??? but i still don't have my license endorsed. i should probably get around to doing that, but my insurance doesn't require my license endorsed...and not really sure what happens if i get pulled over without it. probably not going to be good though. gl on your skill test though...i would check in your state if msf course can replace that b/c i would rather do that then at the dmv/dps.

hey rrasco....what part of SA do you live in?

I took my missouri today. Here is how it goes.
1. Know your bike
2. straight through cones take longer than 15 seconds to get to the end
3. go around gones (toughest by far)
4. go to from 1st to 2nd back to 1st then stop in a square
5. go up to 15mph then brake after a certain line. You need to do it in like 2.8seconds.

Then you are done.
