excellent post ,
quite a lot to take in, i always went with the
saying buy a $10 helmet u got a $10 head had to re- evaluate a bit
after this, have to admit i would'nt buy a lid based purely on looks or brand,
but the safety stickers snell, dot etc have always had a bearing!
my 2 cents is though, i dont really care about the cost compared with other brands
as long as it is at least as safe, after that then then the extra cost has to stack up well
in favour of style/design, fit/comfort etc. i may be a little naive but i'll stick with my shoei xr 1000
for now and hope the manufacturers/ testers know more than i do.

 

Some great info, I don`t have an option to wear one or not here as its the law. But I don`t think i`d risk it if i had the choice either. Live to ride another day.

 

You know.... you cured me. I don't need a helmet after reading this. I don't have a brain to protect anymore. A lot if info there and it makes you think.

Well i never really thought about riding the street without one....(but you have to in Oregon it's mandatory law) but after highsiding, and slamming my head on the pavement there is no way in hell i will go out on the streets without a lid on my head. I know i would be droolin all over myself and in a wheelchair right now(no offense to anyones family or friends) if i hadn't had my shoei on. Now on the Dunes on my four wheeler i always wear my lid cause the people that we ride with that got us into the sport would kill me if i didn't wear it.(family) but i Might ride out there without one.

It's amazing to me how people don't realize that even if you crash at as little as 25mph the force of your body weight + the bikes weight all slammin on yer noggin is just brutal. Where's that physix perfessor when ya need him ... um, uh, errr, oh ya ... I ran him off with a dyno[:@] Of all the rotton luck.

I read this some time back, about the time the old helmet was due for replacement. A helmet supplier just happened to be at the local Honda dealer while I was shopping, so I asked him about this article. He didn't seem too happy about it. Made several disparaging remarks about their research methods and results. Gee, he didn't think much of it at all. I wonder why. Unfortunately the only helmets around here are Snell rated. After re-reading the article maybe it would have been a good idea to go elsewhere for one.
