Lightbulb Pay it forward

OK, guys, on another forum I belong to they have a thread they started about paying it forward. The basis of the thread is, if you have something sitting around collecting dust, offer it here. If you want. Then, if someone needs it, they post up and say so. The idea is that you send them the item, then they post up something they have to get rid of and so on and so forth.

I have been thinking about this for a while now, and was going to start it sooner. For example, I had a pair of gloves I no longer use, so I was going to post it here and give someone a pair of gloves. Then in turn, if they have something they don't need, etc etc.

I had a pair of Icon twenty niner gloves I was going to post up, but I just read another thread from a new guy who had just bought a bike and was asking about gloves and a jacket to gear up. He mentioned the Icon 29'ers, so I offered him mine as a gift. Told him to pay it forward.

Now, if shipping is an issue, you can work it out. Just a thought, for some people to help one another out. What do you guys think? When I come across something I don't need anymore, I will post it up, if you guys want to give this a go.

Jim

Yeah they had this on a forum i used to frequent also. The only problem was people would come on asking for stuff they wanted and itd defeat the purpose of the thread sorta and made everything a mess. Its a great idea and will definitely help people out so im all for it. I just say that you add that people cant ask for stuff, it can only be offered. Would it be first person to respond in the thread gets the item or would it go by pm? either/or? The donators choice? As long as all that stuff is made clear in the beginning then i think we should definitely do this.

In theory, this is definitely a great idea, and I would contribute.

I must say though I probably wouldn't contribute to anyone with less than like 200 posts, just to keep it in the forum.....

I would envision it as you post when offering something, and people can PM you for it. And then within the same post - you can edit it and say who it went to....

I would say that, you can't ask for anything, have to post an "I'll take it" in the thread, then you pm that person. But, if you take something, you have to be the next to post up. Keep it going in that fashion.

As far as 200 posts, well, it may be tough. and I know I am well under 200 posts, so would that mean I am not eligible? lol

My view --- I wouldn't give something a way for free to someone who isn't a "usual" on this forum. Because in all likelihood people could just join to get something for free, and never return to "pay it forward" again.

I think 200 posts or so would be a good indication if people would not only get something for free, but also pay it forward to someone else.

And no, I wouldn't give you anything for free with your current amount of posts

But then again I guess it would be up to the person who is in fact giving something away...

Jim,

That is a great concept, unfortunately as the new guy who just inherited a "pay it forward" item, I have nothing to offer just yet. However, because of the good will of some of the members on here, I would be more than wiling in the future. Nice to be on here....

is the intention that it has to be motorcycle related? because i just replaced my commode (with a spiffy new water-saver model) and i have a gently-used one waiting to go to the dump. it was only ridden on sundays by a little old lady on an all-fiber diet.

well then i say you start the thread nepa. Put the rules in the first post and the point of the thread and since you just donated some gloves i doubt anyones expecting you to put something else up for the taking so maybe leave it open for someone else to make the first offer? If i had some stuff layin around id make the first offer but all i got is a rashed up right fairing and a broken windscreen so i doubt anyone wants that.
