As our season begins, the bike thieves season starts also
a few years ago, the thieves did their homework, and found out where all the bike owners lived. and they stole ~10 sports bikes in one night
You know whats ironic? I wouldnt have my bike if it was never stolen in the first place. The guy got it back in real bad condition and didnt want it anymore so sold it to me super cheap and i have thrown a bunch of cash into it now its a beautiful ride xD.
I will be locking it when its not in my buddies shop.

Locked garage, security lights, 160 pound german shepherd, 50 pound husky and one irate .40 cal glock owner. Not too worried about mine this year. Moving next year so will have to see what it's like then. Honestly though installing alarms with motion sensors on bike is a pretty easy mod, as well as rotor locks with warning tones for when forgotten should be top priorities for people living in high crime areas. And last but not least, if you can afford it, full coverage insurance is always nice.
I've had a motorcycle stolen in the past and I know how it feels. Thankfully most criminals are stupid and he was caught 4 days later thanks to a sharp Hillsborough County Sheriffs Deputy.
Speaking of insurance though, you don't need full coverage insurance, you need Comprehensive coverage. When you talk about full coverage, most people are talking about covering the bike in case of an accident at your fault. That's collision coverage. Comprehensive coverage covers your bike for everything other than an accident. Vandalism, theft, things like this are covered by Comp. We pay about $175 per year for coverage each for our 3 bikes, 2 600F3's and 1 1000F. It didn't make sense to cover the bike for collision, the amount was close to $1500 a year. Not worth it for bikes that only cost between $2500 and $3000. I think that most everyone can afford Comprehensive coverage.
For securing your bike, I suggest using a cable through the frame and then around something that can't be moved. A tree, light post, sign post, fence or something like that. Think about it. A couple of big guys can just pick up your bike and put it in a truck or van.
