THE OLD MAN DID IT
My dad rides a 2006 Kawasaki Meanstreak, so I know what you mean. It's a lot of fun. My whole family (not counting sisters) rides. My brother's got an older yamaha cruiser, my mom has my old Honda Rebel, and my dad his meanstreak. The funniest thing about going places together (and we just did this last weekend) is seeing them slidin' along on their cruisers (all black or white and chrome) in chaps (mom) or other similar biker gear, then me sticking out like a sore thumb, all decked out in bright blue on a crotch rocket. It's great!
Last year I had my bike down at school, and I swear my dad called me about 5 or 6 times not asking, but telling me that he could ride it back home FOR me. He's a self employed accountant so he works like a dog (14-16 hour days) all through tax season. So he was telling me he could do all this because he wouldn't be stuck in the office at that point. I threw him a bone, he got a ride from one of his friends down and got to ride my bike back home. It was kind of funny because My dads last bike purchase was a 1975 Sportster (his previous bikes were Triumphs) which he still has but doesn't really ride, and he could lean the bike right over at LEAST as well as I could, he's 57. The only thing that I could tell he wasn't that comfortable with was the fact that he could rev the engine past 7 grand, which is something no bike he has ever ridden has been able to do, much less at a cruising speed.
I wish I could ride with my dad more. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be riding.

my real dad used to have a honda shadow but i wouldnt let him ride my bike, hes too wreckless, lol. he hasnt asked anyway so i havent had to tell him no luckily, haha

Cool deal, but keep an eye on him. I read an artical that said more older riders get into accidents that have not been rideing for awhile and then go get new powerful bikes becasue they are not use to all the power of the newer bikes.
I have not lived with my dad since I was 3 and he lives in FL now and I'm in Oh so we never get to ride together. He's coming here the second week of May and he's bringing his bike so we can ride. It's going to be so cool.

That is f_cking AWESOME!!! I love my dad to death, and if we could ride together, damn...all I can say is, that is very special.Like someone said, make sure hehas some good gear. All my dad ever said to me was, "Don't EVER get a motorcycle".
Speaking from the old man side...Getting to share an interest with your kid is one of the best things in life. I took my son to buy his first bike at 18, a brand new SV650. Had him take the MSF course and went out with him countless times. Me on the trusty old steed, my first new bike,a1979 CB750F and him on the SV. Well he went out and updated to an R6 so I had to do something. While I appreciate the performance of all the new stuff I just couldn't get connected with the style or the prices. The Mrs. and I want to tour so a pure sport machine wasn't going to work. A '94 CBR 1000F seemed to fit the requirements. I guess my son likes it to because he wanted to use it for a ride to New York from home in Ohio. Be sure to invite the old man out on as many rides as you can. We can't get enough of you or riding!
