Everytime i take the bike to work and im wearing my jacket and have my helmet strapped to my backpack why is it almost protocol for some random genious to ask. "Oh so you rode your bike today?"and usually its some brotha whos excited when he says it lol I mean everyday it doesnt fail (work downtown chicago btw)

Guys...guys,
they're only trying to start conversation/small talk about the bike.
Think of it as a sign of respect..they're acknoledging the fact that you ride... and want to be able to identify/bond with you.
In the "National Geographic" analisis style...
"The rest of the pack acknoledges tha status of the Alpha wolf..."

I walked by some dude in a parking lot jamming a coat hanger into his door...I say, "man, you locked out of your car" he simply grins and says yea......I thought to myself..what a dumbass I am, what else was he doing?? Was he gonna say, "no jackass I'm stealing it and you don't remember me alright"I hope not anyway.
