Default NorthEast campers...Help!

I've been searching google and keep coming up with nothing good.. [:@]

Im trying to plan a camping trip with a few friends in the NY/PA/VA area..we have intentions of fishing, canoe/kyaking(sp) and hopefully some good scenery, maybe some waterfalls, you get the idea[8D]

So any avid campers know some good spots, and maybe a place you can brick some alcohol??

Although WV looks, nice it is over an 8 hour drive, and was hoping to find something a little closer.

How many days are you looking to go for, and do you want to drive in and set up camp, or backpack, or put everything in canoes and travel that way? A few days backpacking in the high peaks section of the Adirondacks is hard to beat, but carrying booze up and down those mountains gets old after a while. You could also do a multi-day canoe trip on the lakes between Old Forge and Saranac Lake, and carry all the food and drink you want in the boats. This is also a very nice time of year to run the Hudson Gorge between Indian Lake and North Creek.

I've mostly done day hiking in the Catskills, but there's definitely enough there to keep you busy for a few days. I've even had some nice overnight trips right in Bear Mountain/Harriman Park, or canoeingon the Delaware just about anywhere upriver from Delaware Water Gap.

There is this camp called Floodwood up in NY about an hour past lake placid i believe .its between saranac and tupper lake if ya ever heard of them. i went there two times. you go on a week long canoeing trip, im sure u could use kayaks also. and you can work out hiking into it also. one year was no hiking just 50 mile canoeing trip. second year was about 30 miles of canoeng and maybe 10-20 miles of hiking, it was amazing(both). Boy Scouts FTW! haha seriously check it out, it costs tho so idk how much ur willing to pay.

The canoe trips sound like an awesome time, but you think it will be too cold to enjoy it in early Nov.?

i came up with this place doing a search near the areas posted above..
