NHTSA motorcyclist crash statistics
Came across this while researching a seat belt law paper I'm writing, thought some of you might find it interesting.

By Age: Older motorcycle riders, who account for an increasingly larger proportion of all motorcyclists, now account for about half of all motorcycle rider fatalities. NHTSA data show that in 2006, 47 percent of motorcycle riders killed in crashes were age 40 or over, compared with 30 percent ten years earlier. In contrast, fatalities among young motorcycle riders have declined in the past 10 years, relative to other age groups. In 2006 fatalities in the under 30-year old group dropped to 32 percent from 45 percent in 1996. Fatalities among motorcyclists in the 30-to 39-year-old group fell to 21 percent in 2006 from 26 percent ten years earlier.

Us oldies tend to stay on the bikes, where allot of youngsters only ride for a few years then chuck it in?
The rider population is getting older , that's for sure ..

I really dont understand and maybe someone can clear it up for me. I live in Ohio and here in the great buckeye state its a law that you must wear your seat belt while driving a car. However you dont have to wear a helmet on a bike. Kinda stupid if you ask me

I personally think that there must be a very large or powerful lobby group or groups in various states, stopping it from being made law in most of the US ... nothing else explains it ??
So insurance companies want me to believe that motorcycle accidents are on the rise. Okay. But isn't the number of bikes, and the number of cars and trucks and retired, old blind people out there also on the rise? Why didn't they mention that part? Oh...right, the insurance industry wants me to think motorcycling is very dangerous, so I should be glad to pay stiff premiums for their services...hmm
Do you get it? These statistics are highlighted in a way to make you comfortable writing them large checks all year, every year, forever...
