My personal advice do things step by step. L!ke this old "what about bob?" movie. Baby steps. One small step at a time and lots of practice for everystep. The rule is that if you loose your confidence then you panic and if you panic then you crash. They have a term for this I can't remember now. So you don't want to be there when you can prevent it.

Get toa large open lot and just start playing around. If you don't have any damage protection on your bike (frame sliders, crash cage) this would be the ideal time to install it. For just starting out, it would be well worth the money because damaged plastic can add up real fast!
