NEWBIE MISTAKES!!!!
+1 on blinkers on
+1 on kickstand down
+1 on laying bike down going real slow
+1 on HORN while reaching for the signal!!
I was making a right onto a street and I accidentally pushed the horn instead of the signal. After I made the turn I was looking around like who the hell is honking at ME? I didn't do anything wrong! and I was just thinking about it for a few minutes till I got home and figured it out!

some of these are hilarious. heres mine and its fairly recent. i was lowering the rear a couple more inches and had it up on stands. it sat in place for no less than 6 hours. i live in an apartment so this is in my living room by the way. im surfin the net when all at once i here wham! the bike randomly fell over and broke the right corner off the winshield. i can deal with that but the handle bar raped my counter. got a hole about 3" across all the way thru one side lol
Went to my road test and put a disc lock on while I was inside. Came out, instructor said "hop on and drive". So I did, forgetting to remove the lock[:@] made a loud noise and exploded in the parking lot.
Still tryin' to kick the blinker habit.

The first time i ever rode a bike it was on my roomates ducati 999. he said it was like ridin a normal bike, thing is i hadnt ridden one in years. so im goin in the parkin lot by our apartment and there was a curb ahead of me and so i turned the handle bars and of course the bike didnt turn and i hit the curb doin bout 10 mph. then i only put my left leg down (i weighed bout 140 lbs at the time and wasnt as strong as i am now) and of course the 400 lbs bike decided to fall to the left. tore of his blinker and also scraped up his fairing.
But on my bike ive done alot of ****e. Leave the blinker on all the time. When i first got it i would try to start the bike all the time wit the kickstand down and the bike in gear and wonder WTF for bout 1/2 hour thinkin i ****ed up my bike allready. o and the dumbest thing that ive done is try to impress a girl by doin a slow wheelie in which case i bounced the tack and the bike did a pretty cool back flip, only problem was i was on it. just put her back together the other night so im sure ill have more stupid ****e soon

+1 on damn gloves
My biggest newbie mistakes were in my first year. I was always was a overly cautious rider to begin with. Basically I was a chicken s**T. Trying to impress some gals I hit the gas on some loose gravel I didnt see and the bike went bu-bye. I didnt suffer more than a loss of pride, but the bike went end over end about three times.
My second biggest mistake my first year was taking off of a intersection to fast. To this day I am not sure how far I rode that wheelie down the street, much less how the old cane did it in first gear. Needless to say after that incident it pretty much scared the crap out of me and no more wheelies for this guy.
Anyone run into this one yet? My winter after getting my bike, being the novice rider I was, I never realized I had to do anything in regards to winterization. $400 later for a complete workover I have learned to use av-gas or stabil when she gets parked.
Here is something that is really crazy. In South Dakota, if you have a commerical drivers licence, all that is required to get a motercycle endorsement is a written test-absolutely no driving test is required. Now if that isnt scarry I dont know what is.

Man, these things are hilarious! I can see so many of these things that I do. Turn signals, check. Horn, gotten better, but check. Kick stand, that's affirmative. The day I finished my MSF course, I walked to my bike, started it up, hopped on it and when I went to put my left foot on the peg, I put the bike into first gear. Luckily I had the clutch in.
Okay, i think i can one up everyone. Have you ever been sitting at a stop light and while repositioning your left leg by putting it on top of the peg, accidently kick the bike into gear. Ive done it twice now.

I have done the blinker thing, the kick stand, and this is probly an orginal. While riding I tried to switch from main tank to reserve. I got off into a ditch my left foot got caught between the bike and the ditch wall and to top it off I flipped over the handle bars through my windscreen. The lesson learned from this is: Do not try to switch tanks while riding. It is a BIG RED !@#$ING TRUCK situation. I calk it up to inexperince and lesson learned. A very painful lesson.
