NEWBIE MISTAKES!!!!
OK, since were being honest, years ago I bought a new Kwaka Z650 (yes I'm old) Rode it around to a friends place to show it off.
Anyway, as I was leaving, we noticed two young girls sitting in a car outside.
So my friend and I assumed the "cool bikers" pose, started my bike with heaps of throttle (that will impress these chicks), cept on this model of bike you had to pull the clutch in to start it!, yep, popped the clutch, then watched as my new bike made it's own way down the street.
There I was running after it, arms flapping and shrieking like a big girl. My friend still tells that story, just to watch me squirm and yep, after 20 years, I still do.
Karma does come with a sense of humour.

Being a pretty big newbie I have a lot of these. Most have been mentioned such as the kickstand being down when starting, kickstand rolling and dropping the bike, putting the kickstand down then coming back to find it sunk in the ground, hitting the horn instead of the blinker, leaving the horn on, "checking" to see if iam in 6th, stalling which i never do until the worst times possible, and so many more than people have said.
I didnt read them all but i have a couple that i dont think were mentioned.
One going from first to second and accidently it goes into neutral and i give it a shot. This is more embarrassing that the horn thing.
Two. The day I got my first bike a 03 Ninja 500 I was showing my mom how the center stand works and tipped it over.
Three. Starting the bike before I open the seat compartment to get my helmet.
And Four which is the stupidest thing I have ever done. A few weeks after I got my CBR I was opening the back compartment to get my helmet and for some reason I opened it up, took the key out, threw it in the compartement and closed it. Leaving my helmet and key locked up with no spare. No clue what I was thinking, i just did it in one fluid motion. I had to leave it there for the day until I could get a hold of someone to get the extra key. I always keep my spare on me know incase I ever do something stupid like that again.

Not a motorcycle story but a funny stupidity story. On my old car a 94 Ford escort I was actually able to take the key out of the ignition with the car running. Well one day I was already late for work and realized I had forgotten something at home so I flew back home pulled the key out with the car still running ran in the house. After about 2 mintutes of looking for whatever it was I needed I ran back into the car and took off. So I'm at an intersection sitting in the middle (the escort was stick, I'm sure you can see where this is going) waiting for the cars to all pass so I can make my left hand turn and just as I can go I let out the clutch a little too much and for like the 2nd time ever in my life I kill it! Ok no problem I'll just start it and go. I reach for the key to turn it and what do I find??? NO KEY! So there I am sitting in the middle of an intersection the light just turned red and the cars behind me are honking so they can go. I'm like crap I'm screwed! Luckily I reach in my pocket and I'm saved my set of keys. I was so lucky. That would have been quite embarassing.

So I get my first bike 01 929, on the way home the gas light comes on. I pull into the next gas station and fill her up. Pay for my gas and start my bike to leave, click first gear die, do this 4 times before I find the kickstand down lol.
I've done the helmet strap thing a couple times here lately too.
The best one I've heard of yet a tech at the local honda shop told me about a guy who bought his first bike there and crashed it inside the service department. They had serviced his new bike and he was getting ready to leave. He pinns it and dumps the clutch wham straight into the wall. CLASSIC.

Mostly I get a little nervouse when I have a bunch of cars behind me at a red light. Of course, I'm getting better, but I can't say how many times I have to re-start the bike with people waiting. The one that I'm trying to avoid is not only for newbie's, but stopping at a light and putting your foot down into the greasy, slick stuff, and losing your balance. Trying hard to avoid that one!
panic...when i first started riding i would panic alot or at one point i just did something really dumb. the first time i dumped a bike (my hubby's) i was riding up and down a dead end street (i think it was the first time riding it, maybe the second, and my hubby still has not let it go) i was in a tank top and a bug landed on my arm and i let go of the bars to swat the bug away and fell over (prolly only goin 15-20mph). then i was coming out of my parent's driveway once (just after i got my first bike) and was going to go down hill, their driveway has a ton of pot holes that i was trying to aviod and to my left there was a 90degree corner/steep uphill you could not see cars coming and they don't know the driveway is there and to my right is a steep down hill, well my hubby was pushin' me to go down cuz i was only comfy going up and when i started to go i saw a car, paniced, grabed the front brake and laid it down on the side. then there was the time i was coming back from the dmv (i was going to take the test and they cancelled last minute due to rain earlier that morning). my hubby was with me and we got stopped at a light, i saw him fussing w/ his helmet cuz he hadn't got the strap together yet so when the light turned green we both went left and then i turned my blinker on and tried to take an immediate right into a gas station, not really sure what happend after that except hubby went down trying to avoid me who went down and that is the accident that put the nice big scar on the side of my knee. (foot peg sliced through) which is why i always suggest wearing your gear cuz if i had good gear on (vs. shorts and tank top) it may have saved my knee from a cast for 6weeks and a nasty looking scar for the rest of my life.

i used to feel the same way, even with other bikes, like my hubby tells me, don't pay attention to those behind you, let them drive and you pay attention to what you are doing. if you have to restart the bike don't sweat it, just do it as quick as you can w/o panic and move on your merry way, i still stall out sometimes especially in hot weather, today actually, and i just started back up and kept going, my hubby laughed at me but then i got to laugh at him when he almost lost his balance trying to stay up as long as he could after stopping and then we were even
as for slick pavement, yeah, it sux. when stopping try putting both feet down as opposed to one and then if you want lift one back up, that will assure you keeping your balance at first. i've been riding six years and i still always put both feet down first, don't try to look "cool" by only using one cuz it is true there is slick pavement and when one foot goes out it's nice to have the other one down as a back up.

lol... as for the kickstand, get into the habbit of doing it first, just be careful cuz most newer bikes will shut off when the kickstand goes down and then a lot of people forget to shut the bike off and kill the battery.
as for the blinker, i used to shut it off automatically all the time, but now that i have been working on improving my skills, i have had more on my mind and have been forgetting a lot, be careful cuz cars will try and pass you when they think you're turning. it's something everyone does, ya just gotta try to remember to look at your dash from time to time to check.
as for the starter/horn...i've done that, then i look around like "who did that" lol it happens, sometimes when i get real heated and go to hit my horn i'll hit my starter and wonder why nothing is happening and then realize i used the wrong hand, again.
