I suggest morning and night every other day. And, do them in small sets with a short rest inbetween,8 rest8 rest ... until failure. You have two goals, strength and endurance in the muscle. You need more and better bloodflow but maybe not peak strength. You need a way to remove lactic acid as well as to deliver oxygen.
ill start doin some push ups and sit ups every night

I always alternate between upper and lower body in the gym but never skip my PU/SU
