Need computer help
I have an hp dv6000. Yesterday it froze so i had to shut it down the hard way. I turned it back on and hit start normally. When i got the loading bar it did its thing and then went to a black screen with my cursor on it. I can sometimes move the cursor and other times i cant. Ive tried the restart methods and they dont work. I also tried restoring it to a few days ago and it sill didnt work
Does anyone have any ideas?
PS: a virus is very possible since my non listening wife decided to install frostwire. But she installed it about a Month ago and it worked fine till yesterday.

Turn on ,...... keep hitting f8 ..... bring up in safe mode ....see if ya can roll it back prior
to her putting in frostwire using system restore..... if that fails
recovery console from the OS CD I'm afraid
or a copy all your stuff to a flash key and reload
PUPpy linux on cd is a quick cd bootable linux distro that will let you grab your stuff.

Hp dv6000's are piles of ****. My wifi went out in mine about 5 months ago, the north bridge or the south bridge overheated and hence the wifi problem. I had to order a new Motherboard, change out the fan/heatsink/cpu and few other du-das from the old board to the new board ... and now it works again. about a month after i did that to my computer, my sisters limited edition dv6400 took a **** as well.....her screen just remained black .... i ordered her a new motherboard and installed it for her... hers works now too. Hp dv6000 computers have alot of issues....luckly a new motherboard is kind of cheap...from ebay.
Sounds like a Malware issue
Start SMWN
hit F8 as soon as you turn the PC on and keep hitting until the Windows advanced options appears then select Safe Mode with Networking.
If SMWN works then run Combofix, it can be found HERE
Save the file to your desktop and rename it to something random, like agga. run the file, it will take about 20-30minutes to run but if its malware then it will fix it. Also if it asks to install the recovery console, select no! most the time it messes up the PC if you hit yes.
If this fixes it I would also run Malwarebytes afterwards, its a good program and may find stuff that combofix does not.
I agree with Piranha, the Dv6000's had alot of issues, I know the wlan are very likely to go bad in those, and they tend to overheat(like piranha said)....I'm not knockin HP, cause I have a Dv7000 that has been great for the past year or so, but the dv6 series were lemons.

hmmm it sounds like a motherboard issue. The drivers on the mboard are being faulty so sometimes you can move the mouse and sometimes you can't. This recently happened to me and I had to replace my Mboard and HD to get it back in shape.
Like everyone else said, hit f8 (sometimes f2 on some computers like mine) and try to access the bios menu and especially try to access the BOOT menu via the F keys. If that doesn't work then this is a bigger problem like I suggested earlier.
Put in your Recovery CD and access the BOOT menu and try to boot the CD. if that does not work then press F something (I forget which) and try to turn on your computer via Safe Mode without network. Tell us how far ya can get. Good luck sir!

So i cant get into safe mode with networking so im going to use a computer and install combofix onto a thumbdrive and try to use it that way. Is this possible or does combofix need a internet connection to work?
So i finally got my computer back up! YAY! I spent 4 hours with a friend of mine fixing it. He did most of the fixing and i did most of the watching. haha
It actually started the first time so he was able to install a AVG virus protection and spy bot. Once we ran those we found over 1200 viruses/malware items on this lil laptop. So once those were cleaned it still ran a little slow and we had so much random crap on it we did a system restore to factory settings and WAHLA it works. We did compress the photos and email them myself so i wouldnt loose those. I have about 1.5 gigs of photos alone so i need those. Thanks everyone for your help.

Glad you got it fixed! If you didnt want to do the system recovery ou should have ran combofix...most likely you still had a rootkit causing the slow speeds....I clean about 15 computers on a daily basis at work, and if combofix doesnt fix it then its a reload...
Also I highly recommend Malwarebytes Antimalware the full paid version as it does an awesome job. The free version is great, but it does not do any real time scanning. You can get that at malwarebytes.org
