Well....back to the original poster.....when you have gasoline in a diesel, it should run minimalistically and terribly in my experiece....as I work with a bobcat rental store and believe it or not, one of the most common things that thappens to our MT55....s130....and mini excavotor is gasoline being put into it.....
And with there being a fuel line...and fuel filter....just disconnect the fuel line, turn the ignition to on(not start) and, with out equipment, the fuel should just start to spurt out of it. I have to play with the lines, and I take the fuel filter, and unscrew the bottom cap and you can unscrew the cap and the deisel should also come out.
When MOST of it is out,(You dont want to burn out pump) add a gallon or two of diesel and do it again to dilute what ever is in the tank and didnt get flushed out. Then, new fuel filter, reclamp fuel line, and start it up....may take a few cranks and may flood...but hopefully diesel is whats flooding it, and you can start it up again....
but this is all on bobcat equipment...not sure if a car would be much different...but deffinantly worth checking into if it happens again. As for your wify....its a mistake anyone can make. AFter getting gasoline all your life, its just habit to grab it again so make her feel better about it.
