Default Mini roadracing? Any suggestions?

OK, so I was stumbling around on the net and decided to hit Motorcycle-USA.com to see if they had posted bike tests for the new '07 CBR lineup yet, and instead saw an article about a guys first race. Now sense I like to hear about newbies experiences to know what to expect I took a look. Well, it was a minibike race, and it honestly sounded like a lot of fun. Basically its a motorcycle race that offers all the excitement of two wheel competition without the cost and catastrophy of taking my literbike out to the track. Plus, having some race experience behind me when I do decide to take the 954 out wouldn't be a bad idea. Here is the article.

So has anyone tried this? Im going to look into aquiring a cheap used Honda NSR50R, and have started looking for local tracks in the area and orginizations that run these types of races. Does anyone know if they have these kinds of races here in Phoenix? Let me know please, Im thinking this could be a new, fun, and relatively cheap weekend hobby for me. Also, suping up my little racer and applying custom paint jobs would be lots of fun too wihtout the $1000 dollar price tags of similar mods to my big bike.

hey i'm in phoenix too, I'd try checking with the AMA stuff and I did some kart racing out here as well. PKRA has an awesome track and maybe you could get them to let you use the track. www.pkra.com

Yeah, well if your interested now, this isn't going to help matters. I've been browsing around and found a friend on an old forum from when I lived back in Ohio that actually races in the minibike class, so I have put some links to his forum posts of his races this year. I have a feeling by the end of this week, Im going to be further in debt. Dont think Im going to shake the urge to spend the $1000-2000 on the bike, and sign up for a race, lol. The first post has pics, and some youtube videos. The second, just some pics.

well i'd like to take a month or two to get back riding and pick up my new leathers anyways. I think we should get a good crew of people in the phx area that would be willing to get a class going, then stat hitting up the kart tracks and see if we can get some time slots. There's a track in north phx (17 and 101) and there's a badass track down in tuscon.

I figure if we can get like 5 guys or more on minis we could get track times.

very tempting.... Im still debating wether or not my bank account can take another hit like that, probably a grand for a used one, but usually when my interest is peaked this strongly by something, bankruptcy never stands in my way. I was a poor starving college student when I bought my 954, and my eclipse, lol.

i hit ebay when i read this post earlier and found a few for under a grand and then found a guy with a bunch of nsr50s in CA. So i figure if everyone's already got their leathers, we can save some cash and swing over to CA and buy em once we've got a place to race. Dude I'm tellin ya, if you've never gone to a kart race track, theyre packed on comp days. If we could get a slot within a few months we'de have a ton of new people riding. And for 1000-1500 for a setup im there in a heartbeat.... or a few months worth anyways.

send me a pm if you really wanna get in on something like this. I got my F3 and eclipse when i was a broke college student too
