I bought an 96 astro work van from my boss a couple of years ago that was one of our salesmen old vans and it had 434,000 miles. The Vortec 4.3 had never been touched and the interior still almost new. The salesman kept the oil changed and took great care of this van. It had had a couple of transmission rebuilds and I replaced the tranny just before I got rid of it.

I was thinking of starting a thread about this a few days ago, figured that no one would take intrest...I stand corrected. This guy lives less than a half hour from where I live so this all happened in my backyard, kind of cool considering the truch was used for work most it's life.
I took to hear about the fact that Shell oil was also a big name involved in the story. Since about two years ago, I try to only use shell gas for my toys and once their broke in, I use AMSoil synthetic, I feel that keeping the same products in them will help them live for as long as they can put up with my abuse.

I wonder how many components in the driveline have been replaced and, are not really original.
There are alot of cabs/airport shuttlesrunning around with alot of miles, but a million is amazing. I had a 1988 mustang GT that had 250,000 miles on it and never had the valve covers off, but the thing simply rotted away by 1996.

I would like to know more details on this story. If the truck isa Diesel or gas? what has been replaced and how many time? I manage fleets of vehicles and I over see alot of chevy trucks and some have made it to the 200K mark, but have had tons of repairs and are in the shop like twice a month.
A million miles on a Diesel in a semi is no big deal, but on a gas engine that's crazy.
