Alright, what I am trying to achieve here is I have about 2000 numbers (literally) in and then make a chart and a list of the number (Ex. 324645, and how many times it occured).

So what am wanting to do get an ending like 324645 - 5 time or whatever without having to manually count them first. Is that possible or anyone know of a program out there that will do this???

 

Not so much interested in a bar chart or anything more interested in a list of some sort.

 

yea, i think if you select the data in excell, and then click sort, it will rank the numbers from least to greatest, or vis versa.... at least then you will have the numbers that are alike back to back and you can just count em (but you said you didn't wanna count em), but as far as the computer goes spitting out the number of each by itself, i would probably write some code using MatLab

 

That sucks. what about a way to graph it showing each number and the amount, a no on that either?

Ok....you want to use the CountIF formula.

=CountIf([range],[criteria])

Example, say I have the list of 2000 numbers in cells A1:A2000. And my list of numbers to count in Cell E1:E10
In Cell F1, I would type in =CountIf($A$1:$A$2000,E1) And then I would fill the formula down (use the little square in the lower right corner of F1 when F1 is highlighted).

The dollar signs ($) make the reference to the lookup range absolute (meaning it will not shift when filled down). Likewise, the criteria range will change from F1 to F2 and so forth.


NOTE: You don't have to sort them, and you can highlight the ranges instead of typing. Use the F4 button on the keyboard to toggle the Absolute modes (all absolute, Row absolute, Column absolute and All Relative)

 

Riiiigggghhhhhhttttt. Haha, I dont know that much about it. What I am trying to do is I have a list of item numbers for my employer (that have been known and stolen) and I am trying to see which items have the highest occurrence so we can target them. I will see if I can figure out what you meant. I really appreciate it.
