Default Maintenance Issue MY !!!!

Ok, so, where do I begin. I started my Christmas Vacation with a trip to the in-laws in Indiana. We drove because it was definitely the cheaper choice, plus we had a lot of packages to bring. So on my way threw, some of you know I got a ticket in the great State of Georgia (jor-ja) for doing 5 over passing a semi. So that was kicking off the holiday. Well, I missed everything I shot at hunting due to the fact part of it was my fault and the rest, well, I guess just wasnt my luck.

Anyways, fast forward. On the way home from my families house, I was driving my truck and my girl was driving her Jetta. We were coming from Destin, FL on our way back to Orlando on I-10. 2 miles before the I-75 interchange, my girls car dies going down the road. AWESOME right. I was about .5 or so in front of her and I didnt know what happened so she calls we. I cut through the median, start heading back westbound, find her and cut back through the median, and a cop sees me, SUPER! He turns on his lights to pull me over for cutting through the median but realizes what I was doing so then he offers to help, nice trooper I must say. So Im thinking alternator, or maybe even an ignition or spark issue. So its about 7 PM when this happens and its not a power issue because her lights come one and no dimming no nothing. No I haul **** to Lake City to a UHaul to get a dolly because I wasnt in the mood to diagnose an issue on the side of the interstate, not was I paying a tow company $200 to tow me to a shop and then fix the car or $800 to get me home. So I go get a dolly, come back and the trooper uses his ram bar to push her car onto the dolly. Again, nice trooper. So we get home, I tow it to the VW dealership the next morning and, ,wait for it. ........... they are telling me the timing belt slipped, caused the top end to go cuput!!!! Well, these peeps just replaced the timing belt 20,000 miles ago but they wont warranty it because its a maintenance issue, even though Ive been on top of all of it. So they take it apart further and tell me the crankshaft it ground (which it was) and it also bent a rod!!!! Wooo Fricken HOOOOOOO!!!!!!

So we can pay off the car and sell it, or keep it but it is going to be between $5800 and $6300 to fix. Merry fricken Christmas to me!!!! Soo Ive been dealing with this since then. I just had to vent. Thanks for skimming through!!!! Carry on!

Thats horrible. Timing belts can cause all kinds of expensive issues. I know that my Accord was traded in b/c the timing belt went and bent the valves to hell. was going to cost $3K to fix it so the guy just bought a new car. Salesmen bought it from him, had the Honda tech fix it for cheaper and sold it to me.

That sucks man sorry to hear it.. Its murphys law man. between 5800 and 6300 to fix it?? Damn might as well sell the car for what its worth and try to get something else. Does the car give her trouble frequently? I have heard people say that their VW was either excellent or just a lemon.

These valves were MESSED UP!!!!!!! She didnt even hear anything when it happened. No nothing just lost power. this is the first/only problem we had out of the car. No nothing besides an alignment issue. But now if we trade it in we have negative equity because it isnt running. If it was running it would be fine, but since its not we arent going to get donkey for it. So that means money down and a nice high payment. I dont know what we are going to do.

But this is the first issue and I was surprised what happened. I dont know, but this has definitely be stressful the last month or so!!!!

Tow it home and have somebody steal it[8D] Nah, how much just to drop in a new engine? Hell a Jetta is a decent car but that's a lot of $$$ to repair that kind of damage and who knows what sort of junk came apart and did other damage.

And the timing belt thing ... sounds like stupid to me. 20K and it slips? Does not add up ...
