Low cost Intercom Test

Anyone had any experience with bike intercoms?
I know that the expensive ones are very good...
but......
We went for a ride around our area to test out a little new very cheap Intercom that we bought from Ebay last week..
A low cost purchase that we thought was work the risk .. a bitta fun
Only $24.95 AUD ...yer cheap as
yer we thought we would get what it was worth too ?...
Ebay link ..
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-HandsFree...QQcmdZViewItem
We were surprised that it worked at all for that price .. and as we found out it worked great while traveling at up too 80klm per hr ... real good for the slow stuff and creeping though towns at the limit..
At higher speeds it was a little hard to hear clearly ... but then who wants the misses yelling in your ear at 120klm per hr anyway !
All up a good buy ..

G'Day (again)
I've imported around 150 of those little Tronic units, and they're fine up to around 120 as you say, sometimes more if the bike has a tall screen.
Best on the market by far - Autocom, or Starcom Advance, but then you're looking at big money.
Bike to bike may be a good option - we use Midland/Alan units, good for about 10 miles (box says 26 miles) and the PTT (push to talk) means you don't have wind noise, pillion screaming etc in your ear all the time. (find the off switch for your Tronic before it's too late)
Nady make good intercoms too, as do Beier, but the above two are by far the best IMHO.
Chatterbox is CRAP, so are the Scala rider bluetooth units.
Go to the Autocom and Starcom websites, and listen to the reception and clarity up to 240 KPH - incredible.

Probably better than the crap one from Dork Smiths, but it to worked up to point (round 80 clicks).
But I very rarely take anyone with me these days, & my wife has not got back on the bike since 1982 ish. Went away recently with a bike to bike (cheapo system) & it worked ok to, will fork out a few bucks on a better CB & I reckon it will be great. But to be honest I find this sort of thing a little distracting when you get to the pointy end of riding.

CBRclassic, spotted this site a few years ago & thought that it looked promising, they get a good wrap on a few forums & with the Aussie $ about a $1.25 New Zealand at the moment may be worth thinking about http://www.amalgamate2000.com/sales/

Thanks Shadow1.... , I was shocked at how tiny they are ..do not know what I expected ?
I think I will try a better one very soon to check out the differences..
I have a mate that has one , I can not remember the brand , but he paid a few bucks for it ..
pacemake
I will jump on that link and check them out .. thanks mate..
Yer ... a tad distracting , but as I said and you know, it does not work at higher speeds where the pointy end begins
thanks guys ...
all in all it was a nice day crusin around in the sun ... and having a play with this little intercom..
A bit weird hearing the misses voice while riding though ..
The roads are good around here so I was able to keep the speed up just enough to get some peace

My friends and I actually ended up using a bunch of those Motorola Talkabouts. Bought the earbud headset with the PTT microphone. They work great while you're just cruising around. Gets a little unsafe at higher speeds because you have to take a hand off the bars to talk. Pretty cool though, and you can use them for other stuff too. Midland sells a headset that works with open faced helmets, and the PTT button mounts on the bars. Pretty sure the boom mic could be modified to work with a full face though. Found this stuff at Cabela's.
I see you got the old model - only 2 inputs - the Tronic has 3, one extra for an ipod.....
Latest one comes out with cellphone connections, still cheap as....tho
Good thing !
Boom mike mods are easy - you just bend the boom up and secure with a bit of duct tape. Try placing the mikes between your mouth and your nose, sort of on your cheekbone - you'll reduce wind noise this way, and still talk fine

Does the radio not pick up static crackle from the bike ?
I read that the Motorola Talkabout T6500 is hands free ..only $80.00 ..sound ok .. ?
Dunno about that specific model, but T9500XLR goes for that price in the catalogue. I know you can get them cheaper elsewhere. Haven't had problems with engine noise. There's a bunch of channels to choose from so we just look for the best one. I have the T5710, and bought a pair for $60. That was with rechargeable lithium batteries, and a double charger. The headsets were about $15 a piece. I found info and specs at www.cabelas.com
Though there are much cheaper places to buy from online.
