been riding almost a year now.. first few weeks of riding i never went over 7k rpms.... one day i went over it.. and wow that was crazy...

riding my bike now... going over 7k is nothing, heck even hitting 14k isn't scary and i have zero chicken stripes! found a really nice right hand turn that took care of my last half inch of chicken stripes woot!!!

not sure if anyone has answered your question yet, but my 2 cents is get a nice 600. maybe stay away from the 600rr's but try and look for an f4i or maybe a dual sport. i rode dirt bikes and stuff growing up so i was pretty comfortable jumping on a bike and ended up starting on a 02 f4i 600. great bike, good power, good handling, very manageable and will definitely get you moving regardless of your size. i rode that bike for 2 years and just finally moved onto a 05 1000rr. and pretty much you can get a bike with good power like 600f4i even an a 600rr but regardless of size (200 or 1000cc) just dont be a god damn squid, respect the bike and ride within your ability and you will be fine. goodluck, hopefully someone else will stop fighting and answer ur question.
