Yes, I am planning on getting a permit, bad weather is about so i'm not even planning on riding anyways, at least for a week or two. If i do ride before i get my permit, it will only be a lap or two around my little culda sac to get the feel of the bike. I live in a smallish town, about 6k people. I know most of the police officers because they come thru the drive thru and we usualy give them a free pie or two =P, and they have to escort us to the bank for the night deposit. So i dont think they'll give me too much hassle. In the rules of the road for bikes it says that a permit allows me to drive only durring daylight hours under the direct supervison of a licensed rider over 21 who has had their class M license for over a year. I dont plan much on leaving my town till i can actualy get my license, so im going to ask one of the local officers what he thinks.

estion for you. can you get insyance without a permit. if not why risk it. police impound you can always get back. may cost a few bucks. but if you go down with no insuarcne and permit or license you will feel likr ****. do everything the legal way. one less worry. i have been pulled over and because i had all my paper work and didnt try and run. got a warning

+1 on what he said ^.

Most insurance companies won't even give you insurance until you give them a copy of your permit or M class license.
Just take the permit, it's an easy *** 25 question written test (at least here). You're good to ride for 6 months, if I remember. The only restrictions (here in Mo at least) for a permit was no night riding and no passengers. You don't even have to be supervised. Then when you learn, just go down to the DMV and take the riding test and you're kosher for ever. There's no reason not to get a permit or license.
In Georgia, you can't ride on Interstates or Highways either...

Yes, it does have stipulations, i.e. cannot ride after dark, no freeways, no passengers, etc, but, you can ride by yourself
Not here

Why not just get the permit, practice legally and take the DMV test? Why wait months for the MSF course to get the license?

You're not gonna get a feel for the bike in the cul de sac...

Wait to ride it until you can go around the block as often as you wish, with some very light traffic and stop signs. You're just prolly gonna end up dropping it in your driveway if you never get it out of first gear in some cul de sac. Seriously, I have seent eh majority of bikes go down at very low speeds, usually in someones driveway or close to it.

Get your permit, get it insured and hang out in your neighborhood until you feel confident to go out into moderate traffic. That's not just for you, it makes things safer for everyone around you.

Good luck.

Becuase the MSF course teaches you stuff you probably wont learn by yourself and teaches you how to ride correctly. The MSF is one of the best things you can do license or not IMO

I took it, I know that. I'm talking about his desire to ride illegally because the course is so far off. Take the DMV test, be legal and STILL take the course.
