Please follow along on the "little boys dreams crushed" thread or the sticky thread. It looks like we will have some movement soon!

Default This job requires someone smarter than me!!

OK, I am officially declaring myself a moron. After riding up through ridiculous rain and pea soup fog, and across more standing water than I've ever encountered and ever want to, I DIDN'T FIND THE SPROCKET!!

Veedub's directions were perfect and I know the park very well, so I know I was in the right place. I went over the dam, which I'm familiar with, went past the ballfield, and found the pull-out, just like I was supposed to. But for some reason (most likely reason is that I'm an idiot and was looking at the wrong trees, less likely reason is that someone already moved it) I didn't see it. I checked all the trees that seemed to meet the description, but somehow missed it. In looking at my pictures, it's pretty obvious that my little tree to the left of the big tree is different from veedub's.

Looking back, it would have been a very good idea to print out veedub's pictures and bring them with me. But everything on the bike was so soaked by the time I got there, the pictures probably would have been illegible clumps of paper anyway.

Here's what I thought was a little tree to the left of a big tree:

Here's my bike in the fog:

And another picture of my bike in the fog:

I'm bummed and embarassed, but at least I made it through a bad-weather ride without incident, so I can't complain too much. Tomorrow is mother's day and I'll be busy at my mother-in-laws, so somebody else gets to succeed where I failed.

What a bummer Might I suggest that the next person that attempts the task get vdubs # and give him a ring when you get close ... maybe print the pics and put in a plastic bag.

And should the next person have a GPS you can record the coordinates and post. Most GPS systems today will get you within 30 feet.

I wouldnt say you were stupid or any of that.
It had to feel rad, like a lone soldier of fortune in a world of defiance.
On a mission to further the progress of a valued artifact.
On a sole hunt, not asking any rewards, for the love of the game.
Risking life and limb to track down and retrieve a key possession in a movement like no other..

Wow, I'm sorry munson. I'm assuming that you checked all the trees in the area? i kid it under the leaves but not that far. i really hope some d-bag didn't move it and not tell anyone. that would be horrible.

I'm gonna be so pissed if it turns out its gone. if it gets to be June and no one has found it i will head back out there and try to find it myself. In all honestly it looks like the tree you were looking at is too big to be the one i left it on, but thats anyones guess without a bigger picture. i should have spraypainted a big X on it or something haha.

well i applaud your valiant effort Munson, and thank you for attempting to further our cause. hopefully this will not discourage a further attempt by another member, maybe on a more sunny day. i think NessXp is going to give it a shot on monday. maybe the weather will be more cooperative.

Alright everyone. It looks like munson unfortunately fell victim to the weather. The sprocket was there and has officially been moved! Please look at the stickied thread for the new location. It is somewhere near the Delaware water gp!

Can I just add that this is a great idea to build unity.

One thought I have is that the route will be pretty much locked by interstates. You have 80 (Dakotas), 70( Colorado), 40 (tenn, OKal), 20 and 10 Texas, Fl, Az.

there are places that it can make jumps. Depending how this progresses I think a Northern Route/ Southern Route race would be very cool.

What you think???
