Default lane splitting

i live in pa so lane splitting is not legal but i would do it sometimes. this is going to sound like a dumb question but when you lane split where do you go? i know you go up the middle of the cars but do you stop next to them at the red light or get in front? what i am always afraid of is if i stop infront i am sticking way out in the intersection becuase people already pull up farther than they should. if i stop next to them i am worried about one of them swerving over accidently and hitting me.

Here in PA too...there was one time when i really wish I could lane split. Two lanes of traffic were being funnelled down to a one lane side street littered with stop signs. The traffic was basically at a stand still and my bike's fan came on twice. It got frigg'n hot! Plus my hands were tired from clutching and breaking.

If you're going to do it, get by the cages quick and get in front! It can be dodgy doing it where legal, I imagine it is even trickier where banned. I did it all the time in the UK where it was legal and 99% of cagers moved over to give me more room. The odd ****** would move as close to the center line as possible to block me. They usually went on their merry way minus a mirror!

Get in front, When you take off you should be faster off the line.

One time I was daydreaming or something and the light turned green and the cars just started passing me. Now that sucked.

Well here in NY i am no stranger to traffic, But I usually only lane split when im on the parkway/expressay
And if i do it on a smaller rd. with traffic lights, you gotta feel it out and pay attention...If theres room at the front go all the way up, if not find the first gap and jump in it.

For the most part, im fine with waiting at the light a few cars back..

Yeah, waiting a light is ok. But sitting in traffic that moves about 15 feet every 30 seconds sucks.

Bike's fan came on twice?! I've sat in crawling traffic for over an hour on several occassions. Fan has come on dozens of times. Tired hands? Suck it up! What a lazy excuse for increasing your chances of a wreck.
